Non-Reflective Glass in a Box Frame
I've got a large artwork to float mount in a frame with fillets. The overall size of the mountboard on which the artworks are floated will be 1265mm x 930mm. I need to use non-reflective glass and there's a huge difference in price between 2mm and 3mm glass. As the glass will be unsupported in the m...

Re: Frame Allowing Access to a Magazine
Apologies for the delay in providing an update on the outcome - thanks to everyone for their comments. I thought that Prospero's comment about the magazine fading was a good one, so with the customer's agreement, I ended up getting the cover scanned and printed. In doing that, the magazine itself ca...

Frame Allowing Access to a Magazine
I've picked up a job to frame a vintage Playboy magazine, but the customer wants to be able to access it after it's been framed. I explained that I wasn't sure the best way of doing it, but that I'd work something out. I'm nearing the required by date now and need a plan. I was thinking I could use ...

Acrylic Glazing for Large Frames
I've got a couple of large prints to mount and frame that will end up being approx 1.5m by 1m in size. I've always used 3mm or 4mm thick float glass in the past for large pieces, but I want to go the acrylic route this time for ease of handling. I'm not sure what thickness the acrylic needs to be as...

Re: ideas for 1st day covers?
I have struggled to find a UK source for the new book but can direct members to a pdf copy https://miller-consulting.square.site/product/The-Complete-Guide-to-Direct-Contact-Overlays-DCO-PDF-ATTACHMENT/3?cs=true Just had a look at the Lion website, and apparently it'll be available from them in ear...

Hi, can anyone point me in the direction of the moulding in the photo. It's about 3cm wide, high gloss black with what looks like a brown edge. Thanks in advance.

Re: Moulding ID please
Thanks Mark. I get where you're coming from, but I think it's an off the shelf frame, rather than being hand finished. My customer said it had a bit of a sheen to the finish, so I was wondering if it was Polcore. Will do a bit more digging

Re: What’s going on here?
Thanks for your replies.
Couple of questions if I may:-
Mark - not sure what you mean by a flat slit type moulding?
Justin - not sure what you mean by pin wheeled
Sorry if I'm being a bit thick!!

What’s going on here?
Does anyone have an idea of how the frame is constructed in the photo? Working from the outside in, it looks as if there’s a wide frame, followed by a mount, followed by a slip. When I looked closely though, it looks as if the middle section which I thought was mountboard has been mitred. My custome...

Something similar required..
A customer has asked if I can set get hold of a moulding similar to the picture. Does anyone know where I could get hold of something like this. Doesn’t have to be exactly the same, but this sort of style. I understand that the moulding in the picture is by a company called Natalini D837AAA5-3E3F-4A...
Plaque
Does anyone have any ideas or contacts for sourcing a plaque? The frame needs to have a vintage look (ornate gold in all likelihood) and will be housing a canvas, so the plaque will go on the frame itself. Given the look that the customer is after, a shiny silver plaque from a trophy engraver won't ...

Re: Canvas Stretching
I’ve made the frame using lengths of stretcher bar bought from Lion. I’ve attached photos showing the profile. I’ve added a bracing bar half way along the long sides and the frame feels pretty solid. Maybe I should try more bracing?

Canvas Stretching
I’ve taken in a canvas for stretching (approximately 1.7m by 1.2m) and can’t stretch it without getting ripples along the long sides. I’ve attached a photo which probably doesn’t look too bad, but it’s quite noticeable in reality. I’ve had two goes at it without any noticeable improvement. Have neve...
