Re: Framing a piece of canvas?

Thanks for the quick replies. I cannot have too much of a go at the artist as it happens to be my wife! :D I have framed one other of her "sketches" on a canvas off cut, which is what this is, by using the platform mount technique but that piece was a bit smaller. It is not desperate for it to be co...

Framing a piece of canvas?

I have an oil on unstretched canvas to frame, about 40cm square, but there is now spare canvas to stretch it on bars, any ideas on how to frame it would be great.

Re: Cutting a window with just a Stanley Knife!

Nearly 40 years ago, while at college I used to pin and glue 100's of brown and gilt mitred mouldings in my bedroom for a guy with a Gallery in Tunbridge Wells who was wholesaling these framed with prints of birds all round the UK. When I quit my degree without a job to go to he asked me to work in ...

Re: Which UV glass?

We use TruVue from Wessex, GL55, I was told it could fit the frame either way? Certainly we have been using it for 2 years and I have never noticed a right or wrong way.

Re: Card terminals - who is best/cheapest?

Bit of a work around solution but could you email the receipt to yourself then print it out? That is what i do if they want a hard copy, most of my customers are happy with text or email receipt especially if they get it just after you've sent it. Quicksale Pro costs $29.99, it links directly to th...

Re: Card terminals - who is best/cheapest?

We found Paymentsense the cheapest, have been with them almost a year and the service has been fine and iZettle in our smaller Gallery. Have not worked out if I should change ever to the other as have not had time!

Re: Framing Photographs

Did you have problems with certain papers? I never have any problems with the heavy 300+gsm cotton rag papers, even really large sizes. The only issue I have with T-hinges is with slightly thinner gloss or lustre papers.[/quote] I was using Canson Baryta 310gsm paper, I thought that the weight would...

Re: Framing Photographs

I had no end of problems T hinging my own photos. I don't know if it was me or if it is the changing humidity being by the sea, and big changes in temperature being in a sunny position with lots of windows, but the photos would 50% of the time end up with a slight wavy effect. Although I have a Hotp...

Re: Dry mounting Photographs - best board?

Thanks David, have checked with Wessex and apparently that board is obsolete and should have been removed from the website. Glimpse - Wessex have come back to me this morning to say that they can get the old board but I would have to commit to 100 and call it off over 12 months. If this is the optio...

Re: Dry mounting Photographs - best board?

Thanks Featurepiece. I had steered away from self adhesive route as I use my CMC to deboss the position of the photo and place the double sided adhesive inside this, stick the photo and then the mount will not stick to the board. However if the finish using the Fastmount has no orange peel effect I ...

Dry mounting Photographs - best board?

I have been using the Wessex display board to cold mount my photos but I think they have changed their supplier and it now has a really bad orange peel effect. I am now using the Simons equivalent which is slightly better but still not as good as the original Wessex board, are there any alternatives?

Re: "Posting" framed artwork

http://www.fragilistics.co.uk Have used Fragalistics for about 6 months now and service is great. It is about 3 times the cost of a normal courier but you don't have to wrap it as well as you would for TNT etc so it saves allot of time and packaging, and there is the bonus that there is someone to ...

How far is your nearest Ikea, if they are more than 50 miles away are you really competing with them?

I used a Cassesse CS-89 for a few years and upgraded to a CS-299M xl2 a couple of years ago. A definite improvement on the joins and less irritation to the tennis elbows! :D

I am lucky enough to be beside the sea in Cornwall where the sun always shines (well that';s what we try to convince everyone!) :poolparty:

Unfortunately I spend most of my time in a cellar with 5 fluorescent tubes just dreaming of a room large enough to have more! 8)

Re: Any Framing Engineers planning a trip to Cornwall?

It would appear that I have not fixed the problem with my Morso so Neil Stout is trying to get down here to Polzeath this Wednesday or next week. Is there anyone here or on the route to Cornwall in need of his services?
