Re: Suggestions for a Picasso!
My idea is probably not going to appeal to anyone :D but I think modern masters, especially Picasso look amazing in Spanish antique frame styles, where you have a dark painted section which would be very dark blue or black blue, and really bold corners and centres. I don't see why prints should not ...

Re: Starch paste
Wheat starch paste comes in a powder which is mixed with water, about 1 part powder to 4 or 5 water. I just do it in the microwave.

Re: Help needed
Hi, what underpinner have you got? also which pin is the problem happening on? On a 1 1/2" scoop for example, I would probably put two stacked pins at the back (with the clamp directly above where the pins go in) and then move the top clamp forward and put one pin at the front. I think the most...

Re: Simple closed corner "schlagg leaf" frame.
My teacher (Italian lady) mentioned a couple of different recipes depending on if you were gessoing a flat plain moulding of one with carved detail. She also thought the hardness, thickness, and any extra additives can vary depending on some techniques (that Geoff does much more than me) such as pun...

Re: Simple closed corner "schlagg leaf" frame.
Thanks for the extra info Geoff, always good to know the details that go into creating a frame. Dermot, Yes I gesso/spray the frame when assembled, interesting to hear your method, which I have not heard of before. I also find sanding a real pain but have got reasonably quick and efficient at it, ma...

Re: Delivery options?
I have not used them, but they were highly recommended to me by someone in the trade:
http://www.fragilistics.co.uk/
They specialise in mirror delivery so maybe they have also done sports shirt frames?
A couple of galleries I work for have used Aardvark for years.

Re: Simple closed corner "schlagg leaf" frame.
Thanks for the tips Geoff, I will try and water the size down much more, I add a little water already to make brushing on smoother and to avoid the brush marks you mentioned, but will dry a much weaker solution. I use acrylic size for convenience, both in the quickness that it reaches tack and the l...

Re: Simple closed corner "schlagg leaf" frame.
Hi Geoff, I do similar frames occasionally although perhaps not quite as refined as your example, but I am always looking to improve my frame finishing skills :) Do you use loose or transfer dutch metal? I find that wundasize (I use Roberson's acrylic size which I think is basically the same as wund...

Re: Mounting an early Hogarth engraving.
For close framing works on paper I use what I call a spacer mount, which is simply a small mount hidden under the rebate. The rebate is increased in width (not always necessary) and a mount is cut which is set back a fraction from the frame sight edge. The paper is fixed to the undermount with mylar...

I have a little digital hygrometer to show the relative humidity, and try and main a constant, at around 50%
Probably just better keep your workshop on the dry side if you are not sure, so I would set it higher rather than lower.

Re: Prime arts auction
I had an eye on the online auction, just to see what some of the originals went for... when I was employed, the gallery I worked for sold stacks of Prime Arts prints and cards, we used to frame them in quite creative/crazy ways. Sad to see it all sold off.

Re: Metal poster frames
Hi John,
You can get aluminium frames from Nielsen, Arqadia, Lion, and Wessex to name a few, there maybe some others who supply them. They are just called aluminium frames, and are ordered cut to size on 'chop service', the fittings are known as 'hardware'.
Nielsen also do some ready mades as well.

Re: Large mount cut
Did you find anyone else who can do it? You could get the mountboard from John Purcell Paper and cut it by hand. I have cut oversize mounts with a Keencut straight edge and hand held cutter with no problems, they looked like they were done on a mountcutter, although it was 1500 micron and not 2200.....

Re: Float mounted aluminium print
I've used various over-engineered methods for float mounting aluminium, copper, and steel over the years. First started with obeche strip wood and Araldite 2015, 2012, or 3MDP810, to begin with I also used a barrier adhesive, making the bond completely reversible in the future if required. But after...
