Postcard viewed from both sides
A long standing customer has asked me it frame a Postcard, so the front is seen when on the wall, but the frame can be taken off the wall so the back of the card can be seen. They do not expect to hang the frame either way round (yet!). My question is - best way to frame? Two mounts sandwiching the ...

Re: Cleaning an Oil Painting
Thanks for all the help and advice. I wasn't actually planning to do the cleaning myself, and to be fair my customer didn't expect me to do it. She asked if I could recommend someone! And I thought I would be able to, through the Guild, hence this post/thread.

Cleaning an Oil Painting
A new customer has asked if I know of anyone to clean an oil painting for them. It's not an old master, just been badly stored and is now covered in dust and dirt. I called the Guild as I thought they had a register of such people, but they were unable to help. I have found the institute of Conserva...

Re: New Framing Book Published!
The first thing I did when a knew I wanted to get started in framing was to join the FATG. As you say Ed209, it's in the early days of starting out that you need to most help. The membership fee feels like a lot of money, but can save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Advice before you bu...

Re: rose and hollis
You would have thought if they were moving and changing their phone number, they would have let there customers know! Perhaps I don't order enough! Oh well...
But then they still sell their mouldings in feet rather than metres!

Re: Fixing a glazed tile into a tray frame
Thank you all for the excellent feedback.
As usual I seem to be looking for the impossible. Invisible sky hooks or similar.

Fixing a glazed tile into a tray frame
I've been asked to frame a glazed tile about 200 x 280 mm into a tray moulding. I plan to fix a back board into the tray frame leaving about 10 mm space all round. Then just stick the glazed tile to the board with about 5mm space all around. My question is what glue to use? the back of the tile undu...

Re: Hand prints moulded in clear glass.
Could be a child, but the overall size of the glass is around 190 mm diameter.
The gallery were suggesting NOT using glass, so the background of the casting would be against the frame. So a shallow box frame open to air and dust, another problem.

Hand prints moulded in clear glass.
A local gallery has asked me to frame 2 cast glass baby's hand prints. About 190mm in diameter and quite heavy. They are clear glass so I can't stick them to a back board. Gallery has suggested allowing the frame moulding to hold in the glass and using a mount behind to hold it in place. As chevron ...

Re: Pricing spreadsheet for subcontracted work
Thank you all for your thoughts and advice. Nick, yes, it sounds as if I am in the same situation. The gallery has agreed that a price increase is required and this has given me an opportunity to come up with a completely new structure. Unfortunately I lack the experience to know how best to do this...

Pricing spreadsheet for subcontracted work
Does anyone else work for a gallery, or similar businesses, that offers a framing service to the public and then passes the work on to you? I'd been framing for about 2 years, gradually developing my business up to about 5 frames a week, if I was lucky, when I was asked to take over from a retiring...

Re: 4 SMALL TAPESTRIES IN ONE FRAME
Thanks for the advice Prospero and Roboframer, both very helpful. There is a cross stitch (thanks Robo) in every space so they do lay nice and flat. So will try your stitch method with a tag gun (I inherited one of these, but have yet to use it!). Your layout would look better, Robo, but unfortunate...

4 SMALL TAPESTRIES IN ONE FRAME
Hi all, I need a bit of advice on the best way to deal with this little job. I have framed very little needlework. A customer wants 4 small tapestries framed together. They are each 78mm square with a large area of material around them. But they would like them framed close together. See photos. I c...
