Re: THis year or last?

The date of the invoice determines which tax year the sale is accounted to regardless of when payment is received

Re: Hotpress Training

Hi Roy Steve goodall at Wessex pictures is definitely the man to speak to re all things hotpress I would suggest contacting Him to see if he has any training days in the near future. I have attended a few of his trainin.g events and I always learn something. Steve certainly used to be member of this...

Re: Foamboard

I recently made some foam board panels and initially had a problem with the board warping. Mine consisted of a photo dry mounted onto foam board and laminated to give a wipe clean surface. I then attached a sub frame to the back of the foam board slightly smaller than the board and added a hanger to...

Re: Dibond mounting, Hotpress or Jetmounter?

For me the jetmounter would be the preferred option, but my first question would be why do you want to use dibond? If your only reason for using dibond is to avoid the orange peel it might be worth trying white display board in the jetmounter. I mount all of my own photos on hotpress white display b...

Re: What baldes to buy?

I have no idea how good the framers corner blades are as I have never used them but I think I would opt for the morso blades, if you buy cheaper blades and they prove not to be as good you could easily waste £40 worth of moulding in a very short time. In that case instead of saving £40 on the blades...

Re: Displaying Chevrons

Have to agree with grays, if you group them by price there will be a tendency for some customers to avoid the high end mouldings which means less profit for you. Mine are grouped by colour then size.

Re: Which mitre guillotine?

As grays has said a morso is your best bet IMHO. If you can get a second hand one for a reasonable price you won't lose much money if you decide framing is not for you a year or two down the road. I paid £500 (not sure how much they cost now) for mine a few years ago and although some might say I do...

Re: Glue

That is indeed a plough plane, I have one which I used to use to cut grooves for fielded panels and panes of glass etc when I did quite a bit of cabinet making as a holly. Nowadays most people use a router for the jobs a plough plane was used for as routers are much quicker and probably easier to use.

Re: Landscape or portrait?

It's two Ls for me, now I know most peoples say long side on the left but for me the logical way is long side on the right! The reason for that is simple. The right hand measuring arm on the excalibur is longer than the left arm so I always set the right hand stop to the longest side of the mount / ...

Hi
London camera exchange might be worth a look, they sell quite a lot of used gear. I have dealt with them in the past and everything went well.

Re: Keencut 5000 glass cutting oil

Not sure about cutting 3500 mount board but for 1500 mount board it's the Stanley type blade, the twin wheel cutter is for mdf. Personally I never use any oil on for cutting glass but others may differ.

Re: Wanted Coasters & Placemat blanks

Hi Alexis I make my own coasters and placemats as part of my wildlife photography business. I use 600mm x 900 x 3mm sheets of mdf and glue a 1mm thick sheet of cork on the back in a hotpress glass topped vacuum press. For my own work I add photos and laminating film to the top also in the hotpress b...

Re: Wanted - 5 wheel piercing tool

Hi What films do you expect to use and what substrate are you putting them onto? You may not need a piercing tool but I do agree they are silly money for what they are. You will only need one if you use films that are not pre-pieced by the manufacturer (these usually have a release paper on both sid...

Re: Cold frames

My workshop Is in one of my farm buildings and as I am not a full time framer it is unheated. The only problem I have with that is damp, when I first got my hot press I had to heat my boards in the press to drive off any moisture before mounting my photos. I solved that problem by making my bench (8...

Hi Craig When I first got my hotpress I found an article on this very subject so I copied the text and saved it to my computer just in case I needed to use it. I think it was written by Steve Goodall and may even have been a reply to a question on this forum. Not sure if I should post it here as I d...

Re: Sealing the frames

Hi I used a fillet for the first time recently so had the same situation. I ran a thin bead of clear silicone sealer around the rebate before inserting the glass. Hopefully this will stop the little blighters from entering via the front of the frame. Not sure if this is a recognised method of sealin...

Re: Framing photos with no mount

If a customer insists on framing without a mount and the photos are replaceable I usually dry mount onto white display board, laminate with hotpress laminating film and then frame without glass
