Tate , St Ives

I took this shot in 2008 and need some items for an exhibition on Thursday and decided to get a little unconventional with the framing - the flowing lines of the building were quite exciting. I made use of various kinds of black boards - matt, pebble, onyx sheen, black core, white core, bit of groov...

Re: More Advice! Sealing a printed Canvas?

John Robo - this is the product I use http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=100

not sure if I would want a high gloss finish on a canvas - one might as well then have diasec prints done

Re: More Advice! Sealing a printed Canvas?

I had a bunch of canvasses printed for exhibition last year and coated them with 3 layers from a spraycan - I think its a Canadian product with uv protection apparently - RUST-O-LEUM . I used clear semi-gloss and the finish was superb on rather dark images which would have marked easily - ( http://w...

Re: The observer's book of flumbs

Flumbus Formicidae - a live one Once fetched some correx in the garage to use between two mounts for some depth - finished up the job and when I checked it later the live flumb was walking around on the inside of the glass - obviously the ant had been in the flute of the correx and became anxious in...

Re: Frame first or mount?

I never make the frame first - always mount - on the basis that a mountboard is damn side cheaper than the moulding - so if there has to be a mistake its going to be on the mount board - then as I cut the frame I check it against a "correct" mount

Re: Big problem with Morso Blades

... the dreaded snot wood. Somewhere on this forum mention has been made of filing the gap in the morso where the blades do the final cut with some silicon gel and letting it dry before cutting - that adds a little support - if I can't scrap the whole length, I cover that gap with some tape and then...

Re: What would you have done?

I have something like that lying in the spare bedroom ( customer says it's an investment - expensive Paul Emsley drawing of Rhino) Have to drive 50 km to go fetch a piece of Flabeg glass for it too - I solve the outsize window mount problem by dismantling the Keencut (taking off the rail with the cu...

Re: Recommended filler for polymer frames

I removed those clamps from my Cassese long time ago and have never had adverse effects - as for filling synthetics if something has not worked properly - I mix pva glue with some ordinary cake flour ( it dries rock hard) and add black pva paint or gold finger or whatever the colour of the moulding ...

Re: Not a collectors item

It is the box that Robo dislikes so much - deep - the front of frame must be about 20 cm at least from the wall but if it hangs in a corner it won't be any problem - I hear from another client that her house is amazingly interesting so if I hear how and where it is hung I'll add it here.

Not a collectors item

I was initially was not keen on this when the customer arrived with a cow's skull, but after suggesting mirrors to make it more interesting she left me to it and whereas I would not want to hang this in my lounge, she was over the moon with the result

Re: How to do V Grooves

I didn't watch the video but I normally place a card scrap bang up against the fallout when trimming that edge off to take up the pressure on the blade so that you don't get slight "hooks" on that corner .

Re: Framing a sword

I recently did a set of three katanas ( Samurai swords) for a guy and did just the opposite to John - I used brass wire in two places around the handles (in the grooves in the handles) and melinex straps around the blades in two spots each- admittedly the blades of the swords were not honed to their...

I do it after the joining with a little sponge and black pva paint...wipe afterwards with paper towel - just check beforehand that the matt surface is not affected by the paint

Re: Slip mounts - would you use them?

I have made some of these for people who are amateur photographers and members of a club where they get to exhibit an image or two every month - not in a frame , just mounted and pinned to a display board - easy to slide in and out
