Re: Oversized ready made frames.
Hi Mark - apology accepted. I can now see it was a genuine mistake. And sorry if I was a little over-sensitive - it was an unnecessary reaction. I've never met you although feel I know you well from reading your posts over the years. You have my sympathy and frustration that you clearly want to be i...

Re: Oversized ready made frames.
You have repeatedly stated the bottom end of the market is not where you want to be yet continue to try and produce items as cheaply as possible. Should a customer with a 40x30” artwork come along - why not try to convert them to custom framing job? It sounds you are geared up for handfinishing and ...

Re: Recommended Paint Spray Gun?
I am about to embark on a very similar project to start spray painting frames in our unused cellar so I am following this topic with interest. We are a F&B and Little Greene paint stockist alongside our picture framing offerings, so we have a sample pot open of pretty much every colour by both b...

Yup we also use the canvas offsets for most canvases. Where we can’t make the standard sizes work I have found metal plumbers tape to be a very useful at making up the inbetween sizes. Screwfix do it and it’s not expensive. Found it useful for various jobs and installations around the workshop. http...

Re: how reliable are couriers at delivering orders on time these days.
In my experience of the suppliers I use - LJ, Simons, Lion, R&H order before noon delivery next day. Paid next day service (guaranteed) has got very expensive and I expect minimum order amounts for free delivery have increased somewhat since you were last ordering regularly. You definitely need ...

If they are only small pieces wouldn't your table saw be the best option. A sharp blade will be the key with whichever method you choose.

Framex 2022
Anyone else planning to go to the Centrado/Artglass event in June? Not widely advertised that I can see but an email invite reminder dropped in my mailbox this morning. Looks like an interesting day lined up, and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looks a hugely impressive structure. Looking forward to t...

Re: How long have you been a framer?
Very interesting thread to unearth! I framed my first picture when I was about 10! My dad restored and sold antiques from a shop front to our town centre home and added a picture framing sideline to the business when I was still at primary school. As a kid I initially helped out with simple tasks bu...

Re: Anti-Reflective Acrylic
Centrado have recently started offering an Artglass product called Lifetime Acrylic. This claims to be anti-reflective and 100% UV blocking. Impressive. It comes with an equally impressive price of over £1k for a 1490x1930 sheet although available CTS. I’ve not used it yet so unable to give an opini...

Re: Mismatched corners
If you can rule out any issues with your equipment then some mouldings you’ll just find aren’t a regular thickness all the way along the length. The milling/sawing process isn’t always perfect and you’ll only discover this at the time that you present the two pieces together at the underpinner. If y...

Re: Upgrading my table saw.
I upgraded my table saw a couple of years ago after struggling with dust extraction and fence accuracy and ended up going for the DeWalt DW745. This is a great compact portable table saw in my opinion and I’ve been more than happy with my purchase. I inherited my business from my dad and the power t...

Sharp blades, small slices, cut square stuff upside down, colormatched carefully applied wood filler (or sawdust and wood glue mix) when you do need a touch up. Not sure there is much else to it? Oh yeh…. get a double mitre saw….

Re: Discontinued pine mouldings.
I agree about all the above, especially moulding ref numbers, look in the catalogue there is one number, look at the price list, either extra '0's have been added or taken out of the ref number, the same with the website, we have started throwing samples in the bin if we can't find them in the pric...

Re: Discontinued pine mouldings.
Search for PIN/02 and PIN/05. They are still there and plenty in stock. Simons website is horrendous to use. It’s so user unfriendly. The problem starts with their completely random and unrelated product coding, as you’ve found out! The filtering options for products are so wide-ranging it’s hard to...
