Re: Old / Antique Glass
A local furniture restorer friend has most of my stock. He brings in antique cabinet doors that require precise cut shapes. It's not a huge earner but glad to see it being reused.

Re: What's the going rate for framing a football shirt?
Framing sports shirts isn’t as daunting as it might seem. Once you’ve developed your technique for supporting the shirt the rest is no different to a regular box frame or shadow box. Using 5mm foamcore trace around the outside shape of the shirt, usually a cm or so more to allow for some natural str...

Re: Chinese plastic canvases
PUB112 MountCor Canvas.pdf MountCor Canvas (& Paper) is available through Lion. Should work a treat. Big thumbs up for Kool Tack also. A great product. Not tested either with the plasticy type of canvases though. https://www.lionpic.co.uk/p/41283/MountCor-for-Canvas-5mm-1016mm-x-813mm-Foamboard...

Re: Dehumidifier
That sounds like a great idea! There is no drainage that I know of down there so would have to get the water up to ground level and I’d rather not have to do it manually. What model unit do you use? Are you happy with it?

Re: Dehumidifier
Yes, MDF if pretty nasty for most picture framing requirements but we do a fair bit outside of framing where MDF is a great economical choice.

Re: Dehumidifier
Haha I definitely do not store MDF down there! This just occurs on the offcuts that pile up! My double mitre saw is upstairs anyway, this is just the table saw and cheaper mitre saw for rougher cuts. My main concern is the boxed quantities of moulding. I keep off the floor and go through it reasonab...

Dehumidifier
My shop and workshop are in an 18th century premises and we have a cellar beneath which I have my saw in and also store offcuts and box quantities of mouldings. In the past this has been a very damp large space but the landlord has been very helpful with drainage digs around the property to get on t...

Re: Which accounting software.
I use Xero and find it perfect for my needs. Very simple to get your head around following by initial setup where you might need a few pointers from your accountant on setting up your ‘chart of account’ and where to allocate each transaction too. Beyond that it’s child’s play really. I used to do my...

Re: Air leaking on Minigraf 4
It might not necessarily be that part. An issue with a valve elsewhere may be causing the air to vent at that point. Mark Griffiths at TGS Repairs would be worth a call, he knows this machine well and might be able to diagnose remotely? A regular service of all your framing kit is well worth it

Re: Large frame glazing
Wow thats massive for glass. It will be seriously heavy. If you can talk them into 5mm acrylic you are probably halving the weight. Wessex or centrado for cut to size acrylic, although you'll probably find it cheaper online somewhere

Re: Valiani Mat Pro UltraV 150 question
Have you not tried the metal feet Steve? I used to use the Teflon feet but found they still wore too quickly and I was constantly fighting with depth adjustments. The metal feet don’t appear to wear at all. I’ve had the same ones on for months without any wear. They don’t mark dark boards anymore th...

Re: Valiani Mat Pro UltraV 150 question
Hi John In my opinion you will need 3 heads: BLUE 45° - this will cut your standard thickness boards face down, and can also tackle your thicker boards. This head breezes through 3500 micron board no problem. The blue head doesn’t handle intricate design, shapes, text etc very well. For this you wil...

Re: Morso Adjustment
Thinking about it, years ago we filed a slight 45º angle into the fence gap edges both sides which now allow the blades to retract just a little bit further into the fence, allowing access to the part of the blade you are favouring. That combined with the body filler hack improved our cut somewhat, ...

Re: Morso Adjustment
Some mouldings will cut badly on a morso regardless of what you do. Some compo type finishes are very brittle and crumble whatever you do. Very soft obeche will often tear as well. Very fresh blades will be about the best you will achieve but they will soon dull and you’ll be filling and refinishing...

Re: How to… Replace the Cooling Fan
Very useful walk through of this process I just had to undertake after my fan gave up on me. Very quick replacement sourced through TGS Repairs. However on following the tips above my replacement fan still didn't work. The failing fan had blown the fuse inside the brains. There is a bank of fuses in...

Lockdown mk2 - Saving Christmas
So BoJo has decided to lock us all down again during traditionally our busiest month of the year. This is the month that usually makes the rest of the year worthwhile. Doors will be closed for consultations but what ways are others finding to save Christmas, if its at all possible.... Collections an...
