Re: Do you all use some kind of software?

The whole point of pricing programmes is that they price work consistently. As soon as you start pricing according to what you think people can afford, you lose credibility as a business person. The price is the price not matter who walks through your door. In any event, I’ve always found that the p...

Another vote for FramR - I constantly wonder how I ever managed without it.

Not quite the same but I have just over 80 of these if you want them. Just pay postage.

Re: Anybody recognise this?

Thanks very much for looking this out, Prospero. While it's a pretty good alternative, it's a lot wider than the original.

Re: Anybody recognise this?

Thanks John - appreciate the quick reply. I thought this might be the case. I’m sorting out some suitable alternatives from LJ for him to look at, so hopefully there’ll be something he likes the look of.

Anybody recognise this?

I’ve been asked to frame a canvas using this moulding. He has another framed in the same moulding and wants to match them. He says that the existing canvas was framed about ten years ago, but he’s been unable to contact the original framer. Anybody recognise it? I’ve looked through a number of websi...

Re: To chop or not to chop

Chop is a no brainer for me. I keep a range of about a dozen mouldings that I use regularly and buy them in lengths. Everything else is chopped. It’s cut down on waste, and if I (rarely) get a dodgy chop order it’s replaced next day. I’d got a bit hung up on the idea that as framers our job is to cu...

Larson-Juhl have a new photo white board (8278) - working well for me so far and haven't noticed many problems with blemishes.

Re: cutting hi gloss mouldings

I've used the yellow Frog Tape before for jobs like this with some success. It's low tack and peels off easily after cutting. I would suggest trying it on a small sample first to make sure that it doesn't mark the surface of the moulding. Make sure you buy yellow, which is low tack and not the green...

Re: Newbie Q - Frame Support

The method I frequently use for jobs like this is to use WF533 or MO1949, which look similar to WF524 from the front, and use the sub frame PW219 to give the whole thing strength. There’s a guide to using the subframe on Wessex’s website. You will find better selections of deep matt black profiles e...

Re: credit card terminal

I was with Barclaycard and then switched to SumUp - really like it and a flat 1.69% with very quick settling of payments - around 36 hours. You can have a little hand held bluetooth card reader for about £30.00 or they also do fancier POS counter based models. I like being able to send payment reque...

Re: Double Mounting

Anna - have a look at Crescent’s 1714 Royal Orchid in their Select 17 range. Available in single sheets from Wessex. Really nice colour which may fit the bill. The only issue is it being a 1.7mm board, so you would probably need to buy your other board from that range too. If you can get a colour ca...

Architectural blueprint drawing

Good morning everyone - I have been asked to quote for framing an architectural blueprint drawing. The work is printed in the usual blue ink on very thin architectural drawing paper. I'm not concerned about the mechanics of framing the piece, but in the back of my mind I seem to remember that drawin...

Re: Picture framing insurance

You need to check the specifics of your intended policy. Mine differentiates between 'goods in trust' which covers the whole period of my possession of the item, and 'process cover' which specifically covers the actual work on the piece. They are essentially two different things. Having said that, I...

Re: VEHICLES

I use a short wheel based Peugeot Partner for collections and deliveries. The vehicle is great, but I would suggest you need to be careful about the load space figures quoted in the literature. They quote 1.81 metres, but this is flat load and doesn’t allow for a sloping bulkhead between driver and ...
