Mounting posters on MDF

I have been given a framing job to laminate and stick some large poster prints onto 18mm MDF. The MDF edges are to be painted black and a frme put on the back to make the artwork "float" off the wall. Some of the prints are quite large c.40"x30". I understand that placing MDF ins...

Re: Simons Stretcher Moulding

Robo - It looks like a Radiata - VERY fast growing looking at the growth rings. There is a species from Chile which is chopped down after only about 5 years!!

Because it grows so fast there are few knots. Watch out for twisting though.

The router and laminate trimmer sounds a good way to tidy up the edges as Prospero says. Or a belt sander could be used. I'd try Axminster.

As a matter if interest what is the deepest material that will fit in a Hotpress?

Oval Mirror Suppliers

Hello my learned friends - A customer of mine has been asked, by an interior designer (!), to find an oval mirror with a wooden frame either in the White or in black!! The size is to be 1200x800mm. I would do it on the CNC router but it has broken down. Do any of you know of such items "o...

Another thing - american sourced hardwood is generally less generous than wood from Europe - in board form that is.

Have you had a price for having the cutters made or are you goinng for square edged mouldings?

When you have a moulding produced there are a few things that are useful to know which can be used to your advantage. Wooden boards generally come in 1/4" increments - 1", 1 1/4" etc. When they are plained about 1/4" of the the total is lost in cleaning up the moulding. This mean...

Photocopiers! Mmmmm - I sold them for a while. Some tips - 1. Don't pay too much per copy - should be able to get it down to about 0.5p per copy these days - maybe less if salesman's targets are looming at the end of the month / quarter. 2. When you get a price then get a lease price per thousand po...

That's a panel clamp - we glue strips of oak together before sanding to make panels to make furniture. There is an oak sideboard you can see in the foreground.

Thought I'd put up a picture of the workshop. The framing area is over near the clock and the moulder can be seen centre left. We also have the glass cutting area in another unit.

If you like I am happy to machine, cut, join and fill your next batch if you like. PM me and give me the details if you are interested. I expect it could all be done for less than the "hard" moulding has cost!

Phil I run two mitre saws. If you want to get in touch we could try to chop a couple for you. What numbers do you run? Alternatively if you brought a batch up you could cut them yourself - and pin if you like. Then if it chips out it's your fault!! :D Let me know. Another thing - how wide is the mou...
