I asked a similar question a few years ago. Here's the thread which you might find helpful.

Re: sizing issue

Something similar happened to me a few weeks ago. The customer said she wanted a frame for a mirror that was X by Y. To me, a mirror meant the mirrored glass element, but a mirror to the customer meant the whole thing, frame an' all. Fortunately I saw the item before quoting so thankfully there wasn...

Re: Workshop snacks and refreshmemets.

Possibly try Nurafen Plus*, which is ibuprofen + codeine. It's quite expensive compared with unbranded ibuprofen, but as I say, it has codeine in it. I find the Nurafen Plus much more effective than paracetamol. * Assuming it doesn't interfere with any other medication you may be taking, but the pha...

Re: Oversized ready made frames.

Realistically, how many people are going to be passing (and stopping to peruse) your shop window, in what you've said is an increasingly quiet town, which is coming to the end of the summer tourist season, and who are wanting a 30" x 40" frame, in the style/colour you've chosen, and who wa...

Alternatives to Secol V-strips

I've recommended Secol V-strips on another thread, but there seems to be a problem with the supply of these. My usual supplier hasn't had them in for ages, and although they are listed on Secol's own shop, they are not actually in stock. A couple of weeks ago Secol told me they were expecting them i...

Re: Removable certificate

My first thought is to frame it using Secol V-strips attached to the mount. edit. I meant "...attached to the under mount." As Steve says, you could only use these strips if you have a window mount to hide them. Also, see the thread I've started on Secol V-strips as there might be a probl...

Re: Removable certificate

My first thought is to frame it using Secol V-strips attached to the mount. Then once they have removed the backboard, all they have to do is slightly bend back the V-strips to remove the certificate. It can easily be put back in place by bending back the V-strips again to slide the certificate back...

Re: "white" mountboard recommendations

^ Is that Dawn Green as in Larson Juhl 8635? I used to like that one but I thought it had been withdrawn, is there another one, or is 8635 still going strong?

PS. Nolon - I've sent you a PM, in case you don't notice it.

Re: "white" mountboard recommendations

I have lots of different whites to offer customers, but no matter how many you've got, there are some jobs where none of the white mounts look great against a painting with a white background. When that situation arises, a double mount often solves the problem by separating the white mount away from...

Re: Best solution for 1cm space between art and backboard

I'd be inclined to slice up small pieces from lengths of wood spacers, such as these from Wessex: https://www.wessexpictures.com/A130.html That one is 7mm deep but there are other sizes.

If you can't meet the minimum order for Wessex, you can collect single items from any of their depots.

Re: Mat decoration tape

Washi tape is designed to be low-tack, so even if it were to stick in the first place, I'd be surprised if it lasted very long. I've only ever bought washi tape once (for a purpose unrelated to framing), and it was so low-tack that it was non-existent and useless. Some washi tape may be better than ...

The solution might depend on knowing how large is large, and what's the largest frame you're likely to make.

Re: Chandelier chain.

There are several shops on ebay selling chandelier chain, both brass and chrome. Anything between 1m @ £7 to 40m @ £20. If you do a search for "picture hanging frame", the chandelier chain is mixed in with normal chain but it doesn't take long to find. It's mostly called mirror chain on eb...

I wish OPs would return to the thread after they've posted. I sent the OP a PM last week which he hasn't seen because he hasn't been back to the forum. It's still sitting in the Outbox, along with a couple of others that haven't been read because the OP disappeared as soon as they'd posted.

Re: Aargh! Not enought moulding

It might be worth showing it to the customer as they might prefer the chalky finish to the gloss one. It would depend on whether the chalky finish is stable or not though, you wouldn't want it flaking off.
