Re: Welsh businesses - new recycling laws

Quite a few years ago, there was a report in our local paper about the council taking someone to court because they'd been putting business waste in the domestic bin. From what I can remember, it wasn't manufacturing stuff, just some paperwork. The council lost the case, and I remember the judge say...

Re: Fillet Master Instructions Anyone?

In the absence of an instruction manual, forum member Trinity might be able to help as he was very enthusiastic about them in this thread:

Re: Large jigsaw suggestions

Don’t forget to factor into your quote the cost of buying a replacement jigsaw if it all goes wrong, and the time it will take you to replicate an 8000 piece puzzle  :giggle: Only joking, I’m sure you’ll do it without any problems! I’ve never been asked to frame a jigsaw myself, but I’ve done l...

Re: Can I tell what quality mountboard has been used?

If presented with a pre-mounted picture, I always mention to the customer that I can't vouch for the existing mount and that it may discolour over time. Very often the mount doesn't enhance the picture anyway and the customer is happy to change it for a more suitable one. If the customer decides to ...

Re: What extra ‘must have’ equipment would you recommend?

There's maybe not much demand for oval mounts these days, but they do crop up from time to time. So you could consider getting an oval mount cutter.

Re: What extra ‘must have’ equipment would you recommend?

Have you got a decent glass cutter? And a glass nibbler? And a diamond file? The latter two items haven't been in daily use, but I've found them invaluable from time to time. You might find one of these useful, although you can make your own if you didn't want to buy one. https://www.lionpic.co.uk/p...

Re: Removing lacquer

Thank you for the replies. I must admit I'm not keen to remove the lacquer as it does seem risky, and using 0000 wire wool sounds like the way to go, thanks!

Removing lacquer

I've got a customer who likes the style and colour of a lacquered moulding but doesn't like the sheen. Is it possible to successfully remove the lacquer, or even reduce the intensity of the sheen?

Re: hand mitre saws

I use a Nobex Proman mitre saw in conjunction with an Axminster mitre trimmer. I’ve run a part-time business with this equipment for over 8 years. Here’s my experience. I’ve done work for several hundred customers, many of them multiple times so presumably they think my work is of professional quali...

Re: Framing workshop vs retail - planning restrictions and definitions

Great news, it's so good to hear about new entrepreneurs making progress and becoming a successful business. Anything else I need to factor in? Nothing to do with your premises, but do put a link on your web site to your facebook page instead of making people search for it. The easier you can...

Re: AI/ChatGpt

I've got a few listings on ebay. Ebay gave me the option of having AI write the description. So AI took my two-line description and presumably studied the photographs, and then wrote a whole paragraph of creative text in about 5-10 seconds. Most of it was uncannily accurate, although it varied betwe...

Re: Do you photograph your finished frames? If so, do you publish them?

I photograph every finished job for the record. In the early days, I put dozens of the finished pictures on to my web site, along with testimonials, in order to inspire confidence in potential customers. I find that if I photograph the picture when it is propped up at an angle (and stand further bac...

Mine are 150mm. Nobody has ever commented on the length, although one customer was a bit put out that I didn't have 4 chevrons of each moulding, one for each corner. :head:

Re: working with thin mouldings

I wouldn’t be keen on fitting the extra D-ring in the middle. Apart from it looking strange and the bottom D-ring scraping the wall, I’d be concerned about the cord stretching over time and still leading to the frame sagging. I was asked recently to see what I could do with a picture that was long a...
