Re: Supply and cost of picture glass

I find Wessex really helpful and get most of my needs from their trade counter in Dereham, Norfolk. Since changing my car I can't get the largest size glass in anymore ( not in one piece anyway!) but they do smaller sizes and if you don't need large volumes the extra price is not a lot set against d...

Re: Wall mounted Glass Cutter - anyone have a User Manual?

I have a Fletcher 7554 bought on e-bay as well, about 18 months ago, serial number 05448, very pleased with it and does all I want from it. Does anyone have a User Manual for the 7554 that they could email me as a PDF or similar. I have tried the Fletcher Terry web site but no luck.

Re: One spring on my Morso .......

I don't want to be the prophet of doom and I debated whether to say this, however I say it as a picture framer rather than a lawyer and I hope you will receive this comment in the spirit that it is intended, ie to be helpful and not to preach, here goes: The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regul...

Re: A crime against picture framing ....

Why remove it? Why not leave the little bit that is stuck to the back of the print alone and just trim all the rest off with a scalpel, I know it's not the ideal solution but better than ripping the print.

Oops  Sorry!

Moros actually sent me a mannual by post when I asked, they are really helpful but I'm sure they would be happy to save the postage on all the requests they get if a mannual could be posted on the forum.

Re: morso cutting lengths

Is it possible that the sliding scale is missing from Bexwell's machine? (It was second-hand). No it's all there and complete and going strong for a 34 year old machine, I do actually cut my lengths in the conventional way, I just mentioned it as an alternative for those with a problem or for those...

Re: morso cutting lengths

I bought my Morso second hand from a framer who was retiring and used to teach framing, he showed me a way to measure with a mirror, the mirror is fixed so that looking down the Morso from above you can see the underside of the cutting table, you cut the first mitre then offer the moulding up to the...

I use the Frame Co Easy Glass cutter, found it very easy to use, especially if you have to stretch to make a long cut in a 48" x 36" sheet as the wheel stays at the right angle, Lion sell them. Not had a duff cut yet but some exciting moments carrying a full sized sheet! Just got a second ...

Extramite is the same as Cascamite I think, I've used this to build bee hives and the glue really does stick and last even outside in really bad weather. Comes as a powder and you mix it up as required.

If the posters are not valuable try something like Daler Rowney Self adhesive repositionable mounting board, especially if the poster paper is fairly thick, thin paper is much easier to crease as you put it on. I found this board good for low value posters, you can reposition within limits and then ...

Black acrylic gesso is good for bigger black mouldings. :D This is a reassuring post, I've been using quite a bit of black Arqadia mouldings and they all seem to mark - I thought it was me, every time I put one face down I hoovered the work surface first with the Dyson - still got some marks. There...

Design a course.

There seem to be quite a few people who would like to go on a course that is a bit beyond the basic, anyone interested in getting together and designing one that 4-6 of us would like to go on, we could then try and book a trainer- economy of scale and all that! :P

It's amazing how a common language gets so confused. I know that in the U.S. fillets and liners are very different, but over here they are both called slips. So when I see the word fillet or liner, I still find myself doing a quick mental check to remember which is which. Slightly off topic but a f...

I agree with Alan. In my old job we had compulsory Continuing Professional Development to maintain our registration, I and my colleagues reckoned that about 95% of the course content we knew already so most of the time it was reassurance that we derived from them - ie we were up to date. The best pa...

If you are seriously after something on e-bay you need to use bidnapper or a similar service, it costs about a dollar or so a bid but it's worth it if you really want something, not sporting but then it's not a sport is it?

Stuck down print - how to remove

I have an 1824 hand coloured engraving which was produced in London but framed probably in the 60s or 70s by a Framers Gallery in Oakland, California. The print had been stuck down onto grey card backing with a very foxed mount stuck over it, although the glue seemed to ease with water I was worried...
