I have a job to do a large 4' x 4' frame for a mirror. I wonder if anyone has any advice about how to go about ensuring the joins are strong?

A client is looking to have this image re-framed with the name of the artist on a tag in the back. Thing is, the client does not know who the artist is, and the signature is illegible.

I'm hoping someone here might have seen the image and/or style before.
