Another pet hate. "Artists" that paint right to the edge of the paper. Had a lady in about a month ago with an art deco style painting- woman standing hand on hip with a greyhound on a lead in the other. The woman's elbow was about 2mm from one edge and the dog's nose the same from the oth...

Just to clarify. The acrylics I refer to are artist quality paints. I generally use Daler-Rowney, Thanks Prospero, got loads of that. Just bought some from Ken Bromley for some art projects. They had a sale on and were selling 500ml pots for £6. I think I wasn't giving the paint long enough to hard...

Paint finishes

Can anybody recommend a paint (not spray type) for bare wood that would give a nice hard finish. Tried a couple of bog standard types, ordinary acrylics and the like but they seem to be quite easily marked. Would like to finish them off with a wax but I might be needing to use a varnish. Could be th...

Impasto lump n bumps

Hi Folks, got two quite heavily impastoed acrylic canvasses in yesterday. The artist wants them in a frame with a white slip, trouble is there are so many humps and bumps at the edge of the canvas the slip is never going to sit properly and the gaps at the edge will be quite obvious. Is there a good...

Mr. Brown is in intensive care recovering from surgery and being given oxygen through a mask. After a couple of days a young junior nurse arrives to give him a sponge bath to help him freshen up. As she starts the bathing, Mr Brown asks, " Nurse, will you check to see if my testicles are black&...

Yet another half-hearted attempt by the government to get rid of the Chelsea tractors. £950 aint gonna stop anyone buying one, just line the treasury coffers a little more. It sure wont go on environmental projects and it sure wont stop them getting used for the school run and the trip to Sainsbury....

Hi David, I think the whole object of the exercise is to enhance the image. After all, the artist usually spends a good amount of time constructing a picture to keep the viewers eye circulating within the image, paths, fences, treelines, etc. Joe Public usually notice the fame after viewing the pictur...

Hi Greenfields,

try somewhere else. Any supplier I use is only too pleased to supply catalogues and prices. Seems a bit dodgy to me otherwise.

Hi Folks, sorry I've taken a bit to reply but Mrs Fs mother throw a wobbly today and I've been chasing my tail a bit. Where do I start? Had a think about the town centre move. Still think it's a no go for now. Parking is a big issue. With most of the town centre being pedestrianised, a lot of the fo...

Get one with the XP operating system if you can.

Hi John, my thoughts were, don't run before you can walk. Learn as much as I can. Build a decent client base then take them with me. (move would be about 2 miles) Above all, do a good job. I find myself to be a small fish in a big pond. Had a look at the pond before I started and there seemed to be...

Nothing wrong with establishing yourself as a duckling - off the beaten track, testing the water, and then, one day appearing somewhere else as a swan. Hi John, Been thinking along these lines and I think I'm in a bit of an average market, price wise. High end stuff is in Glasgow and Edinburgh. I'm...
