Re: HGP360 vacuum press

Google Drytac/Hotpress and give them a call. Their headquarters and service centre is in Bristol. The engineer is great, he's happy to problem solve over the phone if possible.
Honestly, best to speak to the engineer.

Re: Trade priced frames for local artists.

£4 material costs is a pipe dream Mark. A sheet of 2mm float glass is almost £10 these days, so that's £5 a frame for glass before you add any labour/overheads/profit...

Re: White backing boards with hanging fixings

Worth visiting a local signage company, they use various thicknesses of display board for mounting onto, usually white. Won't be the cheapest, getting them to cut it down, but otherwise framing suppliers sell display boards in full sheets. Sawtooth hangers can be attached to the board with a silicon...

Re: Silicone grrr

"Bond-It" Saves Nails SF is what I use as a water based, solvent free silicone adhesive. It is plenty strong enough for this and can be reversed by sliding a knife through it in the future to remove blocks. To reverse CT1 with solvent will then be applying solvent to the back of the board. As an exa...

Re: framed football shirt with glazing front and rear

Alec Palmer did a demonstration at the FATG weekend, using rare earth magnets to secure a double sided frame. Technically not difficult and looked and worked really well imo. Essential items he used were a 10mm Forstner Bit from Axcaliber, 10mmx5mm Neodymium Magnets (part no.F645-N35-20) from FIRST4...

Re: FramR software - data loss

I have it running on a PC and a laptop. It's been helpful on the odd occasion that there's a blip in the software, to open up the PC version and check for updates etc without risking losing all the freshly inputted data on the laptop.

Re: Decorative Mount Tuition

If you have a mount cutter like a keencut, V grooves are fairly straightforward and instructions are available in the manual/online. If not you could consider an embossed line around the mount. I have used one of these.. https://www.amazon.com/Burnisher-Straight-Jewelry-Setting-Burnish/dp/B07CL6NRGX...

Have a look at Lions 9849/50/51/52.
These are the booklets from Russ Wood of Grey Owl framing. They're also available from him direct as pdfs.
He's an expert on all things bevel and mount related.
Also worth following him on facebook to see some of his work and processes.

Re: Help to mount an oil painting

Why obviously no glass Fitz? It may be an oil but it's on paper which would require glass imo. By hedgehog/floating on board with space between the work and the frame those raised painted edges won't be in contact with anything so will remain undamaged. He'll need spacers to keep it away from the gl...

Re: Help to mount an oil painting

If you're nervous about causing damage then take your time, don't use any self adhesive tapes, make sure they're white acid free gummed tapes or better. Get some powder free nitrile gloves to wear. As well as protecting the work, I find that they're a good reminder that I'm dealing with a valuable p...
