Re: acrylic dome supply

I thought that was what the Lion box was. You add your own moulding. It doesn't come with the moulding.

Re: Frames Pinned Shut

Have a look at Rose and Hollis paper wrapped spacers 1406 5mmx6.5mm, Cut on a morso, join with 5mm wedges.
Adhering something to the glass sounds like creating a possible future problem.

And the work was hung above a radiator.
Mark, I read your last post in the voice of John Cleese in Life of Brian "What have the Romans ever done for us?"

Re: Help with right tape for float mount?

Something like an FO6 Wessex foamboard is a lignin free face paper buffered board, it's fine for conservation mounting and is 5mm, useful when a deep shadow float mount is required.

Re: Stretching a big canvas.

My software says that stretching this size would take 53 minutes, make sure you charge enough.
If you don't have pneumatic, I can recommend the Arrow cordless stapler T50DCD. Large/wide stretching pliers make it a lot easier too.
Take your time!

Re: Help with right tape for float mount?

HI Gabrielle, It's not so much an issue of floating and heat, heat affects all framing work, it'll warp mountboard, cockle artwork inside the mount etc. It's simply the natural effects of extreme of temperature and humidity changes within the frame package. We have some customers who live in houses ...

Re: Help with right tape for float mount?

Above a radiator is asking for exactly this problem especially if you're using a self adhesive tape, it will fail, the heat just speeds up the process. Gummed tape would always be better, but I firmly advise customers not to put artwork above a heat source or in full sun. I recommend that you have a...

Re: Taking Orders

Hi David, I used to write it all down then walk over to the desktop pc and fil it all in, leaving the customer to gaze at their navel (or my certificates on the wall!). It felt awkward and clunky. I've recently added a laptop to my design/work bench and can now input everything as the design process...

Re: protecting watercolors.

Depending on the level of protection (materials) I am giving the piece, I use acid free self adhesive white "NItto"/"Artists" tape or for the higher level I use gummed acid free white paper tape to seal the sandwich. Some framers still seem to be reluctant to sandwich like this, saying it's a mess t...

Re: protecting watercolors.

Going back to the title of the post. The best way to protect a watercolour is to mount it behind glass.
This is framing, this is what we do. It's simple, it's incredibly effective.

Re: New City clean air zones

I was a self employed trade for many years. Speaking as a card carrying member of the lunatic fringe left tree hugging eco warrior vegan halloumi party, I'm sorry Mark but that is utterly ridiculous, if a sole trader can't afford a £9 daily charge to work in a city, then their business is not viable...

Re: Laminator, dry mounting question

If you give Steve Goodall a call at Wessex Oldham branch, he runs a free 1 day course at Hotpress headquarters in Bristol. He teaches how to use both Hotpress vacuum presses and Jet mount cold roller presses. Each one has its uses and limitations. I use my Hotpress to mount and laminate low value pr...
