Re: 2mm or 3mm glass?

I have heard that Wessex's supplier of the 2mm WW has closed down. Unknown whether this is for good or not.

What car?

My faithful V reg Volvo V70 estate has finally gone to the scrapyard in the sky. What vehicle do other framers use nowadays; particularly for transporting sheets of glass flat and large pictures? TheV70 was perfect for this as a) the gap between the wheel arches was about 1.5m i.e. wider than a stan...

Re: Deep tray frame ID

Where about in Kent are you? I use Morgan's woodyard in Strood for 'out of product range' mouldings. Last unusual tray moulding that I needed was 50mm deep (exterior), 40mm deep (interior), 35mm wide (top), 60mm wide (base). Most economical wood was tulipwood at just under £8.00 (incl. VAT) per metre.

Re: Moulding Identification Please

Hi everyone, Thanks to you all for pointing me in the right directions. Frinton do in fact manufacture a similar frame but the widest that they do is 77mm. Gold Star goes to Steve N for the DJSimons link. This is the exact frame at 113mm. It seems that the artist had mis-heard from the portrait comm...

Moulding Identification Please

A customer has just sent me a photo of a frame asking that he would like the same or similar. The frame width (as indicated by the approximately drawn red arrows) is 130mm (approx. 4 ½”) but he will settle for anything similar in the range 120-150mm. He is an artist specialising in military portrait...

Re: Naxi paper and Dongba ink

It shouldnt happen if the glass is not touching the acrylic paint (or similar) but it could if there is high moisture content inside the frame.

Re: Naxi paper and Dongba ink

Alkalis (i.e. pH > 7, and especially when the pH approaches 9) will react with the silica in the glass to produce a liquid that will corrode the glass and will attack the ink. Similar to iron rusting, glass needs to be kept separated from alkilinic compounds as cloudiness will appear on the surface....

Re: Naxi paper and Dongba ink

Hi Roboframer, Thanks for your response. My asking the forum about about Naxi Paper is partly based on the fact that I do not have the sheet yet. A valued (I.e. they keep coming back) customer will be bringing it in sometime before Christmas. The customer has had a bad experience (with a previous fr...

The ink is also a local speciality and is made from the ash of a local tree. The paper is not translucent like papyrus. Customer would like to have the 60cm wide by 40cm...
