Re: type of work

I'm putting together fairly basic training booklets for here on different aspects of framing. T shirt and box frames will be one, fabric stuff will be too.

You're welcome to a copy if they'd be any use. Won't be finished til next year now though.

Re: type of work

To be honest...not much of the object stuff is as tricky as it looks. Shirts are fiddly and can be a complete pita, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they're much more difficult than framing a picture. I've had some tightly rolled posters which were probably trickier. Sports shirts are good money f...

Re: Training stuff

I'm also on the lookout for photos of anything that's been damaged/stained from bad mounting practices. Maybe something you've taken apart to reframe?

I've used one of these a few times.

Training stuff

Hi, I'm putting together a training document for the people we support at the framing workshop. I want to have a section on taking care of customers' objects/art. Does anyone have any suggestions for bits of best practice it would be worth mentioning specifically? Same goes for any best practice on ...

I just thought that was part of the underpinner, been sat on my cassesse since I started here! Didn't even think about taking them off!

Wish I'd seen this thread and especially NYAF's post a few months ago before I tried to take mine apart and ended up buying a new one when it wouldn't go back together again!

Mystery tools

Hi,

I've been trying to tidy through my workshop and keep finding things which I've never come across and have no idea what they are for!

I realise it's probably a total newb question, but does anyone know what these are?

Re: Large antique plates - how?

I've used Mighty Mount bits for attaching a few things and been quite happy with them. Never tried the plate holders though.

Anti-static brushes

I've got a few of these https://www.lionpic.co.uk/p/8964/Static ... 0mm-%2f-55 kicking around the workshop which have been there way longer than I have and probably haven't been treated very well!

Reckon I would see much difference if I get new ones? Or are they just overpriced brushes?

Got all my votes too! Never worked with anyone suffering from dementia here, but I've seen the difference this can make in people who have acquired brain injuries and can have similar symptoms. Projects like this make a much bigger difference to a lot of people's lives than most people would expect....

I've certainly never tried doing 30 frames with one piece of blue roll. I would pretty much use a new piece for each frame :s

I reckon blue roll is the way forwards.

As long as it's not really cheap and nasty stuff you should be grand!

Just realised that seems like a really cheeky question. I wouldn't necessarily be paying the membership myself, so I'd need to be able to justify it to whoever is!

Re: Fine Art Trade Guild : Arqadia Scholarship : Closing Dat

I know that you would have to be a guild member to take the examination etc, does anyone know if there are conditions regarding how long someone would have to remain a guild member afterwards? I'm really keen on the training and qualification, but guild membership isn't cheap. Wouldn't want to be st...

Re: Framers educating amatuer artists

Maybe a framer who has already done this might be prepared to post on here the bullet points they followed in their talk, to help others who are prepared to give it a go and give a talk. Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I've been thinking about getting out and doing this for a few groups. Would ...

Re: Piece of Berlin wall

The customer was actually one of my framers, so we were able to get plenty of customer input! It's probably not how I would have done it for myself, but as long as the customer is happy I'm happy... Ended up going with thin wire to hold it in place, looked quite nice in the end. You can't really see...
