Picture Framing Equipment & Materials For Sale in Sheffield

Hey Guys, I'm currently selling my picture framing equipment and materials as unfortunately I don't have the time to make frames any more. All my equipment is listed on Ebay at the following links. I will be letting the auctions end but if you're interested in any of the items or you'd like more inf...

Right okay, I'll have a ring round on Monday and see if anyone knows where I can get hold of one. Really appreciate everyone's help, thank you.

Re: Underpinner Opinions

Thanks for all the great advice here. It's a real shame the comments I'm reading about the new Cassese machines. I think JonathanB is the only guy in the thread who has liked the experience. Everything I read on the forums is really quite bad. Okay, so I guess the older Cassese underpinners are bett...

Re: Underpinner Opinions

But if the guy really knew how to refurbish these I don't think he'd post a picture of a really poorly joined piece of moulding with off centre wedges to sell the machine. Surely he'd have seen the issue and corrected it. Speaking of the adjustable fences, I notice the fences aren't adjustable on th...

Re: Underpinner Opinions

Ahh right okay, I actually only ever use one sized moulding and wedges so I'm guessing the UNI would maybe make more sense for me. However I can imaging it's harder to sell if I ever wanted to as most people probably want the CART.

Re: Underpinner Opinions

It doesn't give an age or an estimate on much use it's had, just says it's refurbished. A heavily used machine was my main worry, so I think I'll leave that and purchase a new one. I think I'll go with the Cassese, but which would be best between the Cassese CS1 Uni and the Cassese CS1 Cart ? I unde...

Re: Underpinner Opinions

Thanks for the advice. I've looked up the Cassese CS88 and it looks like a good underpinner, however I'm always quite sceptical about buying stuff like this second hand. I've found one locally that's apparently refurbished, see below. Does this look decent? It's about £500. Looks okay condition, but...

Underpinner Opinions

Hi. I'm going to be buying a new underpinner and I'm looking for some opinions. I've narrowed it down to these unless someone has some better alternative that I could look at: Alfamacchine U-200 - About £1000 https://www.fletcher-terry.com/frame-joining-material-cutting-products/alfamacchine-u-200/ ...

Re: How to get picture frame corners flush?

Thankyou for all the help. I actually checked to see if the table I was working on was flat (that I thought was flat) and found it really wasn't. Going to be trying to get a replacment top to see if that helps the issue. Thanks once again

Re: How to get picture frame corners flush?

Have you measured the flatness of your V-nailer's table for flatness with a precision straightedge that is not made from your stock of frame moulding? A quick visual observation with the metal table of the V-nailer and a rail of wood moulding is not going to be precise enough. The moulding might ac...

Re: How to get picture frame corners flush?

Are you gluing your frames first and then underpinning or don't you use an underpinner at all? If you do have an underpinner, then glue and pin at the same time. I glue first, let it set, then underpin. I actually started gluing and underpinning at the same time, but I don't think my underpinner ta...

How to get picture frame corners flush?

Does anyone have any tips on getting the front of picture frames flush? Here's what I'm doing currently: 1. Cut the mitres on a Morso. 2. Glue all the corners with Titebond and place them into a Veritas 4-Way Speed Clamp like this: http://www.veritastools.com/Content/Assets/ProductLarge/EN/05F0120L....

Could anyone tell me a little more info on what's involved in getting an arqadia account? This is the signup form I've found: https://www.arqadia.co.uk/SupplyImages/newacc-ltd.pdf But there's all sorts in there about "Please provide in your opinion concerning the ability of your customer to mee...

Re: Polyprop or Mountboard

Thanks for the info. Can I just ask what the job of the undermount would be if you're using the Polyprop? Aren't both for protecting the artwork from the MDF? The harmful stuff in the MDF wont get through the Polyprop would it? Couldn't you just mount the artwork to the front mount, then have the Po...

Polyprop or Mountboard

I've heard about people using tinfoil or something like Polyprop behind artwork. I know people typically use mountboard behind artwork when framed, but I'm wondering if something like Polyprop would do just as good a job, if not better? Both are acid free and should protect the artwork, but the Poly...

Is a barrier board necessary?

On average, How long would you expect a picture to last if it were just framed against MDF with no barrier board? I know it'd vary depending on conditions of where the artwork was hung, but does anyone know roughly? Would using acid free tissue paper / paper behind the artwork give much protection? ...
