If you look at the image you will notice there are strips of mountboard around the edge of the watercolour paper with plenty of bits of masking tape. Err Why?prospero wrote:I'm wondering why 24 pieces? Although I can imagine the guy thinking "It's still wavy. Needs another bit just........there".

It pretty much fell out because being masking tape the adhesive had gone dry.

Masking Tape Mayhem
Had an old picture by a local artist (now deceased) in for reframing and just opened it up to reveal this!
To save you counting there are 24 separate pieces of masking tape.- Mon 26 Nov, 2012 3:53 pm

Re: Cheapo Mountboard for "cutting on" ( on CMC )
I have always found my suppliers have some 2nds to sell cheap. Boards that have got scuffed in the warehouse or ones thay have bought up from their suppliers as imperfect. I did hear that Arqadia have stopped disposing of their seconds this way as some have found their way on to the market being sol...

Re: Silverstone GP Circuit
Not absolutely sure what you are asking here.
The photo supplied to me was 12" x 8". I am guessing it was printed on the day by the photographer on a dye sub. printer from an uncropped digital image.
This was the finished frame.

For that price I think you will need to commit yourself to a container load shipped from the far east.

Re: How to Promote Business Through Banner Printing
I don't think the originator is from these shores! You need planning permission to do this sort of thing here. Our local council has just taken down two banners a farmer put on the fence of a field adjoining a local road junction. Some years ago I was involved in a charity event and one of the organ...

Re: IKEA 0 : Bespoke Framers 1
I would love to know how the conversation went between husband and wife. "So did you pick up a couple of cheap frames while you were in IKEA darling?" "Well I spent a tenner on a couple of frames but on the way home I called in to see a framer and spent £665.00 on some besoke jobbies&...

Much respect!
Turning a couple of £5 IKEA frames into a £665 bespoke order quite an achievement.

I use very little perspex so I now order it cut to size and don't have the hassle of all the offcuts.

Re: Decorative Lines
Sorry Jack forgot to mention these are useful: http://www.lionpic.co.uk/product-search.aspx?search=1425 Framers Equipment in Northampton also list them if it is too late to add to your Lion order. If you Google "Washline Mounts" you will find plenty of examples. Trick is to keep the colour...

Re: Offset Clips
The most expensive (25mm) are only £4.32 +VAT per hundred so I would be inclined to buy a selection.
I find I use more 6mm than anything else. I am a recent convert from spring clips as they do not stick out the back so much.

Re: Decorative Lines
Look at p56/7 in the Lion catalogue. The Everest range are useful especially the pastel powders for filling in panels between the lines. Watercolour paints will enable you to adjust colours to suit the image. Don't underprice this if you decide to offer it as a service. A 20 x 16 washlined mount wou...

Re: Christmas rush has started
I think there is a nucleus of people who get organised early for Christmas (not in our household) and November 1st is a watershed for them.
Past experience tells me there is an early rush and I too am experiencing it at the moment but then it goes quiet again for another few weeks.

I would suggest find someone local to you who you can take the original to and make sure the prints are a good match to it. Getting the colour management right is critical.

Re: Newsletter
Don't forget to include an Unsubscribe option. Some people get really fed up with unsolicited emails. Although they have given you their email in the past they might only want you to use it to communicate when their framing job is complete. Some of my artist customers use Mail Chimp which I believe ...

Re: VAT question
You might need to check current regulations but I believe you can claim back VAT for purchases up to three years. So if you have bought expensive items of equipment this will be an advantage. Once you are registed you can obviously reclaim VAT on all your purchases BUT you will have to charge it on ...

Re: Trying to match a moulding
Just had a quick flip through Arqadia, Simons, Mainline and A&T and can't see anything that matches. There are some similar ones on p128 of the Arqadia catalogue you could look at online and Simons appear to offer pretty much the same ones. I think this is known as an egg and dart pattern. I gue...
