Re: Drymounting oil pastels

Is the customer the artist? As far as I know to dry mount original artwork is a no no unless it is the artists decision as it will reduce the value considerably. Of course the customer is always right, but sometimes they make mistakes! Apparently she is the artist. I’m going to call her to discuss ...

Only an issue with wide moulding?!

Hi all! Our workshop have been having problems with joining really wide moulding. The moulding I’m currently working on is about 80mm wide and the first two joins are nice and tight, the last two are super gappy! I’ve checked the morso, it’s straight and level. I have no idea why this could be happe...

High shine gold mountboard

Hi Forum! :) I hope everyone is doing well. I was hoping someone could suggest a high shine gold mountboard? One of our customers wanted to go for an old Arqadia (Larson Juhl) board that’s now discontinued. I haven’t come across anything from Bainbridge, Crescent or Daler. We don’t deal with any oth...

Re: Deep rebate frame

That's the ticket!  I found a nice way of blending the two on the outside edge. There is always a bit that stand proud no matter how accurate you think you have cut. Use a piece of scrap glass to plane it. Better than sanding. One side of the glass will be sharper than another. Got some...

Exam Nerves!

Good morning forum! :)

I am booked in to do my GCF exam next month and starting to get a bit nervous! I’ve had great advice from my colleagues who passed years ago, but I’m wondering if there’s anyone on here that has done the exam recently and willing to share any tips?

Many thanks! Fran

Re: Mount sizing

Well I think it’s safe to say that we all work in very different ways, but it’s definitely got me thinking and I’ll probably scrutinise mount sizing a bit more! I think I do a weighted bottom maybe 10% of the time but only when it is requested. I think most of my customers don’t realise that it’s an...

Mount sizing

Hi guys :) I was just curious to see what the overall thoughts are about mounts and should they ALWAYS be bigger on the bottom? In my opinion, it’s dependent on the artwork and is sort of “outdated” because we don’t tend to hang our pictures that high anymore. I had a friendly chat with another fram...

Re: Cassese underpinner model

Hi Jonathan! Firstly, I’m so sorry for the late reply! Bank holiday madness at the framers I’m currently at! Thank you so so much for letting me know about the model I’m after. I had a feeling it was probably discontinued or upgraded as the one I used was really old. Now I know the model number I ca...

Cassese underpinner model

Hi forum :D I’m still trying to keep an eye out for a second hand underpinner. I have used quite a few in the past but my favourite one is pictured below. It wasn’t my machine, and I was only at that particular framers for a short time and I can’t remember the model number. This is the only photo I ...
