Re: Mould / Contamination on Print

If the print was in perfect condition it would have a value of £500 to £700, as is I'm not sure of the value. My instinct is it may not clean well. I think I'll frame it and see if the glass disguises the faults and possibly recommend it is displayed in a location that won't highlight it's faults ! ...

Re: Mould / Contamination on Print

Is it best to leave as is or attempt to at least improve the visual aspect even if it doesn't increase the value ?

Mould / Contamination on Print

Hi all, I have a limited edition print that requires cleaning ( if possible ). It has been stored in less than ideal conditions I would say and has developed a mildew or mould on some parts of the surface. It's not really obvious unless you angle the print to the light. Is there a safe way to tackle...

Re: Gold paint for wooden frame

Thanks very much for taking the time to explain this method, it looks very interesting some great info there, I will definitely try it once I get some supplies. The gesso should work well for the surface prep. Similar to filling the pores when French Polishing.

Re: Ademco Dry Mount Press

I'll do the work outdoors and take precautions but thinking about it again mineral wool is safe way above the temperature range of the press I think, so hopefully that's what was used ?

With the company gone so long ago I doubt anyone can shed a definitive light on it....

Re: Gold paint for wooden frame

I will likely try some different methods on some off cut mouldings and see which gives the most acceptable result while staying within a reasonable time frame. Thanks for the suggestions

Re: Ademco Dry Mount Press

I was wondering what the creaking noise was ! Thanks

Yes, it's the actual insulation material ( looks like loft insulation ) that is inside the main casing I was worried about, so it could be just a harmless mineral wool ?

Re: Ademco Dry Mount Press

Probably perfectly safe but as the machine is probably from the 70's or 80's I was concerned that Asbestos may have been used. Saying that surely we would have heard stories considering the amount of these out there....

Anyway if anyone else can shed some light that would be great.

Re: Gold paint for wooden frame

Ah damn it, I was hoping for a " straight from the tin " true gilt finish  I would be grateful of advice and your method of applying gilt finish, I don't mind it being a longer process.......to a certain extent ( got to get paid for the time ) The frame size is relatively small at ar...

Re: To build an online gallery or not, that is the question

Hi, I think it is certainly a valid idea to have a strong online presence but the importance of regular updates and fresh blog posts makes it a surprisingly time consuming effort to do properly. I have seen may people in small businesses put lots of effort in to the initial building and launching of...

Ademco Dry Mount Press

Hi Everyone, I am hoping someone can offer advice on an Ademco 1613 dry mount press. It has the cream and brownish paint scheme. Works fine but I need to change the mains cable as it has worn where it enters the back of the machine. Have opened the main case and it should be an easy job for my quali...
