Re: Width variation

Hi Trecelyn, do you mean barewood mouldings? In this particular case it was a finished moulding and unfortunately it was one I really like to use as it's slightly unusual. I also tried a narrower version of the same same profile and a had a little more luck. However, the narrower profile was warped....

Width variation

Hi

I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with lengths of moulding where the width varies on the same piece? I have just had the misfortune of wasting two lengths in trying to construct one frame!

Glass spacing

Hi I'm being asked more often to frame without a mat and I was wondering what members here used to keep the glass away from the work? For smaller pieces I have used 3mmx6mm strips of wood from modelling shops but as they ususlly come in 450mm lengths they're not great for larger pieces. I have used ...

Print protection

Hi I have a large (85cms x 60cms) photographic print for a customer. It's printed on a textured, thick paper. I've opted to go with mounting it in a tray frame, similar to a canvas, using self-adhesive board for rigidity and a lightweight substrate behind to attach the frame. My concern is how to pr...

Re: Cutting MDF

Thank you all for the replies. Most helpful! I am using Corri-Cor and was looking for something slightly cheaper for my less 'bespoke' output. I have been looking for a reasonably priced bench end gullotine as this would have other applications! No luck as yet. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, d...

Cutting MDF

Hi

A general question - what do you use to cut MDF backing, say 2mm -> 2.5mm? I am debating whether or not I should bite the bullet and spend on a used but quality cutter or if there are any other realistic methods. Bearing in mind that it's a small workshop!

Thanks in advance

Re: Misbehaving point driver

Thanks for the tip!
Looks like a new one is in order.
The firing pin is welded to the spring holder.
Another lesson learnt!

Thanks

Misbehaving point driver

Hi

My point driver (Inmes FI-150) has decided to only fire points one in every 4 or 5 trigger pulls. This is despite using their own 15mm points. They seem to jam on the second or third trigger pull.

Is there a remedy or should I get a new one?

Thanks in advamce

Many thanks for the replies. It seems that I need to secure the moulding before cutting and check the rebate supports.
Thanks again.

Uneven cut on Morso

Hi I hope everyone is keeping well! I'm having a problem with cutting (mainly Oak) frames. I've had the blades sharpened and checked for damage and they are apparently ok. For some reason there is a small chunk of wood taken out of the left hand mitre cut. Does anyone know what might be causing this...

Re: Dust!!!

Hi

I've had similar problems! I bought a small photographer's blower brush as I don't have the room or turnover to justify a compressor. It does work most cases although on larger pieces of work it can be a tedious process.

Help to identify a similar moulding

Hi I've been asked to frame a large print by a client. They would like the frame to match, as much as possible, the frame of a mirror in the same room. I've searched the catalogues I know of and can't find anything. Would any of you happen to know of anything similar or be able to point me in the ri...
