I recently found this technical explanation on the Grumble by Baer Charlton which seems to make sense in the light on my own experience. Hope he doesn't mind my posting it here.
" Hollow grinding is done with a wheel ...

If you eventually have to become vat registered you can reclaim all the vat paid on machinery and equipment as long as it is still in your possession - at least that was the case a few years ago when we registered.
Anyway vat is not rocket science don't be worried about becoming registered ...

Hi John
Are you saying that in less than 15 minutes you fed in 24 full boards (9 per sheet for standard boards?) and had 100 bevelled mounts and 100 backs completed?
That is truly staggering - I had no idea they were so quick - who supplies them?

Hi Mark
You are right that the quality varies enormously but so does the quality of wooden mouldings, however if you use the good ones they are well worth persevering with.
I have lost track of the amount of times a rep has shown me some new gold or silver moulding at around 80p to £1.00 per foot ...

I was asking Merlin Framers the same question regarding £31 per month posted further up.
£31 per month is a fraction of our total insurance so I was wondering what exactly is covered at this rate.

Merlin Framers you said
"We found and are quite happy with
NFU Mutual. Exactly the same cover as the others but at £31 a month. "
Is this for all of your business insurance - public liability - buildings - stock - machinery etc?

You could try CRL Glass and Glazing 01506857940 who specialise in supplying framers. They're based in Midlothian and cover most of Scotland - they have several vans on the road and may be able to do paddle across the stream if you made it worth their while.
Ask for Charles he says he could ...
