Re: Is anyone going to the Spring Fair at the NEC?

My husband went down on Saturday afternoon and came back yesterday evening . They were looking for a new cmc to replace their valiani. He’s having a word with the accountants today regarding import VAT on the flat rate scheme but should be ordering a Gunnar AIOX professional XL with vacuum bed in t...

Re: Is anyone going to the Spring Fair at the NEC?

My memory of a very busy, noisy NEC was queueing for 2 coffees. I hurriedly selected a couple of wrapped doughnut style balls smothered in icing sugar and was asked "Do you want to try?" "Pardon, I don't understand" I stammered. She repeated the 'try' question and I thought she ...

Re: Is anyone going to the Spring Fair at the NEC?

We were there yesterday, agree with the comments already made. The only framing supplier still going is DJ Simons, and to be honest because their stand is so small compared to what it used to be, it looked crowded, uninspiring and to be honest, plain boring. I think it looks worse because surroundi...

Re: Is anyone going to the Spring Fair at the NEC?

You're not kidding, the food's not good at all and I can't understand how they have got the nerve to charge as much as they do for such inferior fare. I don't go to the Spring fair these days, but when I did we always aimed to get in when doors opened and be out in time for lunch. We left the site ...

Re: Is anyone going to the Spring Fair at the NEC?

I went last year after a break of a few years and yes it's not what it was. :( But IMHO it's well worth a visit for trends and tips as others have said. I came away not only inspired but with a sack full of leaflets, info' and card samples that I only finished reading recently. I enjoyed meeting li...

Re: Is anyone going to the Spring Fair at the NEC?

Solomon and white head went out of business some years ago, sad to see. Yeh they did didn’t they ..... we often placed orders with them. We liked Selective Prints also ..... I have very fond memories of Ivan. I used to look forward to getting various publisher’s new catalogues through the post .......

Re: Is anyone going to the Spring Fair at the NEC?

Yes it is a shame there is no separate section. Probably a combination of lack of support from colleagues in the industry ( I.e. not enough attendees) and a change in technology ( info available on the internet and forums like this for discussion!). I do miss the opportunity to attend Framing relat...

Re: Is anyone going to the Spring Fair at the NEC?

Yes I’m going and no there isn’t a separate section these days. The few Framing related stands are in the Home section ( e.g Gumnar and Simons). If you’re interested in prints and greetings cards there is a good selection of exhibitors in the home section and also the greetings and gift hall. To be...

Re: "Home Gallery" project

Hi All, My darling wife has agreed to make hallway in our bungalow a "Gallery" space for my Son and I to display our photography work. I don't live in Chatsworth House; just about room for 10 mounted 16 x 12" prints... I also have an idea that with my new-found framing skills we can ...

Re: Framing a long giclée print.

I have a job due in this month from one of the local churches, it’s 8 foot wide and just 18 inches high. I have produced a quote using my pricing software just like any other job. This will then allow me to tweak it when the customer comes in to discuss the options. I’m not going to put any prices ...

Re: Framing a long giclée print.

That is a good start. Just use your design judgement an continue as if it is a smaller frame. Keep in mind your material strength limits. Hi JFeig. I needed a little reassurance on the acrylic v glass issue and that’ll do nicely thankyou! :D It’s a seascape ..... I’m now wondering about bowing prob...

Framing a long giclée print.

A couple brought a 6ft by 18inches limited edition print from South Africa into the shop yesterday for framing ...... I hadn’t been open long and my partner wasn’t even in to help me measure or price the job up  Any ideas would be most appreciated  I suggested that the customer has acryli...
