Re: Fletcher 3100 wanted
Well, today I have to say I've been mightily impressed with customer service from Keencut. After seeing a comment on this thread from Keencut Technical service I contacted them and I was contacted by Andy. He identified my Excalibur 5000 as one of the very early machines which had sadly missed out o...

Re: Fletcher 3100 wanted
Hi Mark, I don't know a lot about them tbh but having read a couple of your reviews on the machine I like the sound of its simplicity & minimal maintenance requirements. I just thought both ebay machines looked quite heavily used and that first one mentioned that bolts were missing & a small part br...

Re: Borderless print - how to mount
Thanks all. I like the sound of the platform mount but not sure what it gives me as opposed to traditional hinge mount as it still requires a few mm to be under the mount. Or am I not understanding correctly ? I think I'm going to challenge customer & encourage a standard mount otherwise I can fores...

Borderless print - how to mount
Hi, I have a limited edition print to mount, 900mm w x 250mm h, which has no borders. Customer does not want the print bonded & requires the full print to display & wants a conventional window mount. What options do I have to attach the print to the undermount & how will this work with a mount where...

Re: Any tips for pinning oak frames
Thanks Mark, Great advice as always. Oak is very popular here too so I do want to master it. I was careful to ensure good alignment on the corners & the outer faces before clamping & then placed a flat piece of wood on the top between frame & top clamp whilst pinning, which seems to have done an acc...

Any tips for pinning oak frames
Hi all, I have just prepped an oak frame, 17mm square, approx 900mm x 400mm. I ran a couple of tests on the underpinner with some scrap of the same moulding and the pins tried to follow the grain if I got to close to outer edge. As a result I have just used 1 central pin per corner & everything look...

Terrible quality moulding - send back ?
I've just received some moulding stock from one of the usual suppliers. The timber is dry & brittle & any attempt to chop results in corners crumbling away. Is this something we are expected to just accept or do others send it back and/or request refund.
Cheers,
Neil

Re: Rebate not deep enough
Thanks all for the replies. Think I'll need to use all of those strategies given the framing requirements are each quite different (but all use a narrow rebate0. Lesson learned - chuck out the corresponding chevrons and/or be careful what I offer fillets on in future !
Cheers,
Neil

Rebate not deep enough
Today's challenge is I have 2 framed items which once fillet, glass & triple mount are stacked there is insufficient depth to get a backboard in. Do I cut backboard wide & attach direct to back of frame or add a strip of wood to rear of frame to increase the depth of rebate ? In either case I presum...

Re: Keencut Excalibur 5000 - Glass Cutting Conundrum
To answer my own question it looks like I have an early model Excalibur, so glasscutter body appears correct (as the more recent body wouldn't fit). I've tried the new helpcentre on Keencut website but no info there. Please can anyone advise how I contact Oliver at Keencut (who's been mentioned on s...

Re: Keencut Excalibur 5000 - Glass Cutting Conundrum
Frustratingly the very next piece of glass I cut broke as per all the previous problem pieces. I've spent the whole day trying to sort the problem. Final job was to clean up the cutting wheel and in placing it back into the turret I noticed that it slides all the way into the turret & doesn't automa...

Re: Keencut Excalibur 5000 - Glass Cutting Conundrum
Thanks Mark, I've had another go at it this morning & may have solved it. I think the steel edge that sits behind the glass was fractionally distorted, perhaps from glass being previously clamped down against a shard. Now scoring properly but new problem is the bottom edge of the glass is getting ni...
