Re: Not happy with new Keencut blades
Andy from Keencut has contacted us with a very nice email. The shiny finish is apparently a new thing. I'll update further once my partner has spoken to him. I'm sure he will make much more sense than I will.

Not happy with new Keencut blades
Myself and my partner have just received a new set of blades for the mount cutter and we are not at all happy with them. Standard Keencut blades 0.015" (white packet, green print) ordered from Lion. I'm fairly new to this but my partner is not and he's convinced the quality of the steel isn't t...

Posting glass
Ok this one sounds insane, but bear with me. I think I might have found a market for UV glass cut to size. Its a new venture so no guarantees. I'm thinking of offering sizes upto about A4 so not big pieces. How on earth do I send this through the post? Current thoughts are to try out some packaging ...

Re: Looking for an unusual moulding for a customer
Lol, I might be in contact regarding your stash of skinny bamboo, but I've discussed it in depth with my mentor and in my ignorance suggested stacked mouldings and subframes, but he says it's just not robust enough for the project at hand. Its a big canvas and something way beyond my ability, so I'm...

Looking for an unusual moulding for a customer
A customer has requested gold bamboo or gold and black bamboo moulding for her canvas. It's quite a large piece, so needs something with a decent rebate depth. Ideally something 3/4 or 1 inch in width. I've checked all the obvious suppliers D&J Simons have told me they are out of stock of theirs...

Re: Lining up a cross-stitch
I’m a keen stitcher myself and always wash my own cross stitches before framing them. In most cases I advise customers with modern pieces to do that too before framing, but to colour test the threads first just to be on the safe side. Oils from your hands can over time can show as yellowing patches...

Re: Lining up a cross-stitch
I'm a cross stitcher as well as dabbling in frames. If a customer is using standard Anchor or DMC thread, which most will be doing. It is colour fast. If they are using cheap nasty thread then all bets are off. It is very unusual for keen cross stitchers to use cheap thread because the colour match ...

Re: Earthborn clay paints
It's great for maintaining breathability on lime plastered walls. That's what it's best known for and one of its main target audiences. If you've got an old cottage and need a water vapour permeable paint its perfect.

Re: average packaging price for single frames
I've not had a problem so far, I write picture frame on the label, so I'm not pulling the wool over anybody's eyes.
Mine are quite small, I think the last one was approx 320 x 160mm so maybe they slip under the radar due to that.

Re: average packaging price for single frames
I post similar size frames, some of which have been sent international as far as Australia. Admittedly mine aren't box frames. Place a sheet of corrugated cardboard or artback cut to the same size as the frame on the front and the back. Wrap the sandwiched frame in bubble wrap. Take some double corr...

Re: Framing high value artwork
My framing tutor does a lot of work for a national museum. He visits the museum to measure up, makes the frame, and visits the museum for fitting. The artwork never leaves the museum.

Try mirka abranet. I use them on my small random orbital and I've not had one shift before I took it off

Re: Power sanders
Mirka abranet sheets and pads can make extraction more effective and I think they offer them in most sizes. They can be a little fierce, so its good to get a grade below what you think you need.

Re: Can you help? Looking for Conservation Framing by V Kistler Book
I've used Abebooks a lot over the last 15 years. Generally USA has taken 2-3 weeks, India was a long one at about 30 days, UK stuff varies a lot, some arrive in 2 days, some take 2 weeks.

This is one of the more useful etsy fee calculators I have come across, though I have a spreadsheet that I made to enable me to do it somewhat easier.
