I think you meant "orange peel" - not "egg shell".

WOW!!! That is a brilliant idea - support Europe not the US. I agree with your sentiment 100%

Re: Slater Harrison - Closed Down?
Very sad to hear of any business closing down, but particularly such a long established one. Presumably suppliers will sell off Colourmount stock and then it will no longer be available, unless there's the [slim] possibility of another company buying it out.
Judging by facebook posts from ...

Slater Harrison - Closed Down?
I've just seen some things popping up to say Slater Harrison seem to have gone out of business - but don't know much more at the moment. Does anyone have more details & if you use Slaters - who will you swap to???

Re: Dry mounting in Kent
If you are a customer of Wessex Pictures in Ashford you could ask them who they sell drymount supplies to - when I worked at the Oldham depot I regularly used to pair people up.

Re: Fabric backed map - how to fix?
The item was produced before 1952 as noted by the reference to "by appointment to the king" at the top. My thoughts are that it was "wet mounted" with some starch adhesive and not dry mounted.
Yes, Chartex was invented in 1938. However, wet mounting was far less expensive and is easier to align ...

Re: Fabric backed map - how to fix?
I wouldn’t want to even if the customer suggested it really. It doesn’t have a date but is old enough to be treated as carefully as I can.
Odd reaction? - chance of around 99percent that the fabric was drymounted to the back of the map in the first place.
It's highly likely to be "chartex ...

Re: Heat press release paper
Great little machine - in fact it is identical to the first press I used at school in 1979 for my photography O level - happy days. Clear silicone film will work just fine. You really need a piece of 3mm MDF as your topmost layer. This needs to be about 16" x 20" - so bigger than the press top plate ...

Re: Workshop Closure, Orpington, Kent - Items for sale
59 is old enough - I have been knocking around in these industries since I was a kid. I actually drymounted my first photo in 1979 - I was just 15 and studying photography O level at school.

Re: Mounting to diabond
PVA won't work - it will simply peel off in the future - very neatly too.
Keying the dibond is essential - but the artist is delusional to want it on dibond in the first place.
You "could" hot mount it using drymount film - but again keyed dibond is essential & the drymount film would need to be ...

Re: Hot presses
What's the difference (if any) between an Ademco and Keencut hot press.
Superficially they look very similar but did one company take over the product from the other?
Do you have any pictures of the machines you are talking about?
The first machines I sold (in the photo trade) were all Ademco ...
