I'm looking for a framer able to make plain wood frames 100 at a time, and to price accordingly. This would be ongoing.
Please let me know if you're interested for more details.

Re: Coating Painted Frame For Tack Free?
Great advice thanks.
But what about touching up? If a frame gets a knock or scratch, can it be touched up with the original paint (Farrow and Ball in my case). Or will the Polyvine impede touching up?
Btw. Have bought a pot of Polyvine to try straight away...

Do you use the waxy side of the paper in contact with the frame? No issues with the brown paper sticking (obviously)?David McCormack wrote: ↑Wed 18 Aug, 2021 9:32 amI usually wrap the painted frame in brown paper before using any bubble wrap etc.

Re: Coating Painted Frame For Tack Free?
Yes it's eggshell - which explains the slight tack.
Thanks for the Polyvine tip - looks very good. Do you think it'll go over the eggshell ok without beading etc?

Coating Painted Frame For Tack Free?
Have tried painting some frames with Farrow & Ball. I'm happy with the finish and colour, but the paint can feel slightly tacky when dried. Which worries me when wrapped and sent in the post. Is there a varnish or other coating that will both protect and leave the frame tack free?
Thanks

I need a new mitre saw, but wondering if I can buy a used guillotine for a similar price? Needs to be able to deal with 4" (100mm) width mouldings.

Which Moulding Supplier Do You Use and Recommend?
The price of moulding has gone up. I currently use Rose & Hollis. I'm very happy with their product and service, but I really should scout around for cheaper prices - if there are any! Who do you use and recommend?

Using Gesso to 'Fill' Imperfections?
I'm trialling some gilding. Am soaking my first batch of size for making gesso tomorrow. Have prepared my trial frames and filled imperfections and sanded them. Can I further use the gesso to fill out any imperfections that I find?

Obeche Vs Pine?
I build my frames from start to finish with obeche. I finish simply with paint, or sometimes acrylic paint and then briwax. I'm about to try gesso, bole and shellac, gold leaf. I'm thinking of switching to pine. It's cheaper and I guess more sustainable. Does anyone use pine moulding? What are its p...

How does the British Museum mount their prints?
I have several Graham Sutherland etchings that I'd like to window mount and frame. I want to mount them as well as a museum. How does the British Museum mount their prints? Do they simply use acid free tape like the rest of us, and just tape the print to the mount? It seems too permanent to me for a...

DIY Gilding Cushion? Which Leather? Etc.?
I'm considering making my own gilding cushion. I've never actually seen one, is a piece of suede from Ebay all I need? Does it need any packing under the leather? Would a chamois leather work? Any other tips?
Thanks

Re: Corner Clamps? Recommended?
Thanks. I'm just looking at a Stanley band clamp. It's up to 4.5m, but is still too short for some of my bigger frames. Is it possible to have a 6-8m band clamp?
Edit: I just found a 7m band clamp. So yes.
