Re: My day in The Smoke.
Hello people long time, no etc John I'm sorry you had such an awful experience! Hackney has a way of biting people on the behind. There's more than one reason why I choose to runs my business without a vehicle, but you've definitely come up against one of them. The other week another business in my ...

Re: Hot Press on E-Bay
I confess that I'm a sniper, although i sometimes do it manually just for fun. There is really no point in bidding long before the end of the auction. You just give others the time to think about it and decide to bid again. Sniping services are especially useful if you know you will be busy when the...

Re: walnut moulding
good advice from Richard there. I'm assuming its American walnut - not much european walnut around these days, except veneers(if anyone knows a supplier of solid euro walnut mouldings let me know!). Its a little less dense than Ash or Oak, and less brittle - more forgiving to join and less prone to ...

What glue do you use Mike? I've tried several different glues, waiting til the glue dries before underpinning and still get the joint popping some of the time.

Re: new underpinner
I have a CS88. I don't use it on very hard woods at all. Never could get a good tight join in oak, ash etc. Nowadays i join the harder timbers with a nailer or keyed mitres. I've always thought the issue is with the CS88 is the clamp that pushes horizontally. I've spent the last 8 years wondering if...

I'll add my voice to those considering a frame design section to be a good idea.
Just as soon as i can get my camera to start talking to my pc again - i think they must've fallen out. I've got some lovely shots of dead animals to share

Re: Upmarket Framers??
Those prices do help explain to me why i am so busy! I know that West London premises are more expensive than mine(and almost everyone's) but that really takes the p**s. And unless i miss my guess i think you are right about the value of those prints. they're probably old book plates. Doesn't mean t...

Re: Simons WRAP16
I've not used MDF mouldings, but it sounds like an issue with the cut to me. If the morso is not cutting perfectly flat surfaces its often because the moulding is rocking as the blades come down. Does the wrap on the moulding go right round onto the underside? If so then that could be the root of th...

I heard that Monsanto owns the rights to the Maple, along with most cereal crop species and, strangely, dung beetles. Apparently god failed to register in time. Perhaps he couldn't afford a good lawyer expert in intellectual property law

If there's no such statement Very unlikely IMHO. Disney are notorious, and I'd be amazed if a legit product didn't carry such caveats. Disney is one of the Great Satans, anyway. My advice would be to avoid having any business contact with them, however tangential. signed, A Wearer of Facial Hair* *...

Re: Framing Gallery Wraps
When i was working with a friend years ago we found the only way to avoid the cracking on the edges was to spray 2 coats of an acrylic varnish before the canvas was stretched. The priming on those giclee canvasses tend to be very brittle, hence the cracking. The varnish is much more tough and stretc...

Re: MINERVA POLYMER UNDERPIN ?
I'd avoid polymer mouldings, but that doesn't help you. I'd be reluctant to leave a frame held together by adhesive alone. Especially using a cyanoacrylate adhesive('superglue'), as they all tend to be very brittle. It would help if you use a narrow-crown stapler to fit the thing up so you can fire ...

Re: making bricks from morso droppings
I was looking into something similar to this. I live on a narrowboat so i keep warm in the winter by burning my off-cuts. I use unfinished mouldings almost exclusively so no major pollution issues. I use Morso pooh for kindling but it burns far too quickly to be useable all evening My big idea was t...
