Thanks, Fitz. That's very helpful.
My settings must be off, I might be missing a markup that accommodates size of the work and wastage.
I'll have a look at the software you mentioned too. It might be a little more user friendly than the one I've had on trial.
I appreciate it.

Re: Price check
Thanks for your detailed response, I appreciate the advice. I have been using a popular computer program to calculate my framing costs, inputting my overheads etc and allowing it to calculate wastage and markups. I recently had to change my settings because I lost the old values when I needed to upd...

Re: Mounts for an artist
I have the impression that you have a client that wants you to do the "retail packaging" of their art. Todays SOP is to use pre-formed baggies for this process vs film on a roll. You have to consider the time required to insert your cut mounts into the bag. It is unclear that you are moun...

Re: Mounts for an artist
Thanks for that! Yeah, I've got an artist's bone. I didn't think to use my atg gun to seal the wrap, I'll have a wee practice with it. I canny see the wood for the trees sometimes! 🙃 Thanks also for the tip on the permanent, transparent Scotch tape, I might make a neater job with that. I really like...

Mounts for an artist
Hi everyone. I've been asked to price up some mounts for an artist. The mounting side of things I'm fine with. It's the presentation I could do with some advice on good practice about. The artist wants the prints wrapped so they can be presented in a browser at an art gallery. For my own work I tend...

Re: Labels for back of frames
I've used stickers printed by moo. I designed them myself then uploaded the file.
I've seen other framers use inked stamps, which I really like the look of.

I meant to factor in the first one is mounted onto a barrier board, using pass throughs.

Price check
Hi everyone, I'd like a price check on a couple of frames please? I lost my settings in Framr and need to update them and tweak so I'm not losing my shirt! First one: 350mm x 350mm image L2230 (domino white) Frametek 6mm white spacer 10383 (optically clear acrylic) 10520 (corri pro back) fittings: s...

Thanks for the link! I'll certainly check them out.
I also like the idea of deckling/feathering the edges of the tapes.

How do you cook starch paste, where do you get it from - and the tissue for the hinges, and how do you make those hinges? The starch and adhesive free mulberry tape I was going to get from Larson Juhl. However I must have been imagining it as I can't find the tape I was looking at previously. The h...

Re: Hedgehog method
I bought a packing tissue from a local wholesaler, it's used for packing antique, collctibles, items of lace and things like that. I buy most of my packaging related items from them and have done so for years. They were older stock in non metric sizes and made me a offer I could not refuse. Against...

Re: Hedgehog method
:Slap: . I don't use anything to form the space for my bridges. (Un-nesessary fiddling about just slows me down). Just a double fold forming a flatted Z shape in my tissue hinges and applying the cooked wheat starch paste to the areas clear of the double fold, with a cotton bud, afterwards the cotto...

Re: Hedgehog method
The tapes can be anything from 5 to 10cm apart, depending on the size of art. The gap between the tapes is where the dropout is taped back into position so it's leaving room for that. At that size my concern would be strong enough tape and the outside mount supporting the dropout weight plus artwork...

I use lion but will often get it on their chop service. I've found it's more likely to be free from blemishes that way and cuts down on my wastage if I don't have to chop round anything.

Re: Bevel Cutting Jombo Mountcard
I should have said.... Some painted surfaces produce strange optical effects when glass is laid on them. I believe the proper term is "Newton's Rings". Pale colours in particular show dark blobs. :? I wish I knew/read this a few months back, and can attest to what Prospero says here. I ha...

Re: Price Rises
Wow! That's wild! When is it going to stop!!? I despair! I had a customer phone to complain about the price of a job yesterday. Out of curiosity I compared my price with an online framer who isn't offering a hard wood frame, and I'm still cheaper! Instead of making me think about lowering my price, ...

Re: dry mounting on a large scale... perthshire?
I’ve just completed a batch of prints (A1) and each one was backed onto 2.8mm conservation board. They are for an exhibition at Glasgow University and the ‘student’ couldn’t afford frames. This is a fairly rigid board and will under normal situations remain flat. I used my jet mount/cold mount lami...
