Re: Quickie - cutting double thickness mountboard

I found it counterproductive to do the thicker boards so now I don’t offer to do them for anyone. It took so long to set up and reset afterwards that it became a faff I could do without and I didn’t think it was doing my mountcutter much good. Now if someone wants a deep rebate mount I offer to make...

Re: Tips for working with black mount board?

I just dampen my finger and gently rub the board until the marks disappear. Just rub gently and it works every time. You could also use a cloth such as microfibre but it must be only slightly dampened.

Re: NEW CS1 Cassese Cartridge Underpinner - £920 plus VAT

Hello UK Framing Supplies. I have been using the CS1 Cart Underpinner for 5 years now and it is a great machine once you get to know it. I still have a small supply of Cassese cartridges and have been refilling these as much as possible. I heard a report that the refillable metal chutes are not part...

Re: Glass vs Acrylic

Acrylic is a very good alternative and it doesn’t scratch as easily as styrene in my experience. Many framers will tend towards acrylic for very large frames as it is safer and lighter. It also has a greater inherent UV protection than ordinary float glass and you could market it to customers on tha...

Re: Internal frame lighting

You can buy led lighting strips that can be cut to size (Amazon) These are quite cheap and very effective back lighting. They come in self adhesive strips but you might want to strengthen that process using either glue or finger lift tape. These can be operated by a small remote control or you can h...

Re: Retierment Framing biz

On the issue of equipment and machinery I bought a second hand Morso from Wessex, a Cassese C One Cartridge Underpinner, a Keencut Ultimat Futura Mountcutter and a small roller type laminator. I mainly shop for supplies from Centrado and Lion but also from a few others from time to time. Mainline Mo...

Re: Retierment Framing biz

Hello. I retired some years ago and have dabbled in a few bits and pieces over the past few years. As an artist I started out framing my own work and from 2019 have operated a home based framing business. Initially I advertised in a local freely distributed magazine that went into every home in the ...

In that situation I would paint a bare wood moulding bright red acrylic with a dead flat finish perhaps?

Re: BATHROOM FRAMING

The process I utilise with plasticky type canvasses is to cut 6mm MDF to the exact size of the actual artwork of the print. I use a mini roller to cover the MDF with the PVA and let this soak in for 5 minutes or so until it goes tacky. Then I coat it again and apply the “canvas’ using a brayer rolle...

Re: BATHROOM FRAMING

Will it be hanging in a bathroom or is it a print of a bathroom? Whenever I get these to frame if the customer wants a stretcher type option I would ask if they were ok with the artwork wrapping around the edges which would give you more ‘canvas’ to work with. If they were happy to select a conventi...

Re: Price check

I use bbest pricing software and find that my customers are very happy with my prices. They keep coming back. You’re pretty bang on with No.1, I had £62 but for No. 2 I think you were giving your customer a good deal. I had around £120 for that one.

Re: Fletcher tab gun - repairable?

I tried to fix mine but as soon as I took out the securing screws and opened it up it burst open and bits including springs burst out everywhere. I couldn’t get it back together and ended up binning it. I would probably be more careful in separating the parts if I had the chance again. hope you have...

Re: Morso Blades

I buy new sets when I need them from Mainline Mouldings. They also offer a very professional and first class sharpening service. I certainly wouldn’t buy any second hand Morso blades. In my experience they’re second hand because they’re second rate and haven’t been sharpened properly. I only ever ge...
