Cutting Cori cor on a mountcutter

Hi. I have a Keencut Ultimat Futura mountcutter which is a great piece of kit. I have been cutting my backing boards on this for some time (cori cor) but I read somewhere recently that this was not a good idea and detrimental to the cutter? Any comments/advice appreciated.

Re: How are the new start up framers getting along?

That’s very generous of you Mark and if I was a bit closer I would jump at the opportunity. However from rural Perthshire it may be a tad impractical. I totally get the value of spending time with experienced framers as I benefitted greatly from the expertise of Richard Atkins from Livingston, Scotl...

Cheers Mark..it is expensive but my customers seem happy to pay the ever increasing prices for this and similar mouldings. I don’t have the experience or machinery to split such mouldings but I can see the potential especially with the really wide range.👍

I find customers really like the driftwood range from Lion. L2186. It’s very popular and cuts very well imo.

Re: How long have you been a framer?

I was a Police Officer for 30 years and when I retired in 2005 I needed to mentally adjust so I took up watercolour painting. I soon became interested in framing and went on a weekend course in Telford. I learned enough to get me hooked and spent about £1000 on equipment none of which I use now. The...

Re: Help to mount an oil painting

I was thinking that with oil paint it would be best without glass dependant on the quality of the paper it’s been painted on. Often oil paintings are not best displayed or viewed behind glass as something can be lost in the texture etc of the finished painting. However I bow to better experience and...

Re: Help to mount an oil painting

Obviously no glass on this framing project so it very much depends on the quality of the paper upon which the oil paint has been applied. How flat is the finished painting? I’m not quite seeing how the hedgehog method will work where there will be no mount or backing mount showing?. You can’t have b...

Re: Curved boards

I think you misunderstood I don’t intend to glue or stick anything. I will be framing the pieces as they are and using 2.5mm MDF as a backing board instead of the corri cor I normally use.

Re: Curved boards

Thanks for this information Mark. The boards are fairly thin about 2mm so maybe using a 2.5 mm MDF backing board will hold them in flatter. They aren’t massively concave and still relatively pliable but all points noted with thanks.

Curved boards

I have a customer whose father was a prolific oil painter. His father died last year and he has a number of paintings that he wants to get framed. The value of these is not in the artwork as such but hugely sentimental. Problem is a large number of the pieces are on thin board which has bowed/warped...

Also looks a bit like the Portobello range from Lion? They do various colours of this and the black/gold flea market style is very popular. Regards.

Re: Poster Flattening

I should have explained that it is simply an empty tube with strong paper taped to it. You place the poster onto the paper and start to roll. You can leave it for as long as you need to flatten it out.

Poster Flattening

I’m probably last to the party again but I thought I would share a great way I discovered on YouTube to safely reverse roll posters to flatten them out prior to hinging. I used this to great effect recently with a series of Metallica posters that were quite valuable apparently and the customer did n...

Re: Supplier advice

Hi Andy. There are many suppliers around and over time you will no doubt build a good relationship with your preferred ones. For me I use Lion mostly as their customer service and delivery times are first class. I’m based in Scotland and can order from Lion at lunchtime one day and get the delivery ...
