Re: Framing an old family crest - Hinge mounting?
All done, On reflection I would have chosen a bigger frame to give the crest some more breathing room but I was working within the constraints of a small budget so I’m fairly happy with the results. The customer was also pleased Again thanks for your advice. I’m tackling the A0 3D map today. I’ve bu...

Re: Framing an old family crest - Hinge mounting?
I offered all the the suggestions to the customer and noted that it may be damaged if he wanted to reframe the original. He said he didn’t want to reframe it in the future and really wanted to see the weathered edges so I did a float mount with two T-hinges. Will post the final results once it’s in ...

Re: Framing my own artwork
Haha, not sure why it flipped round.
So it’s actually a painting onto glass. So I framed it, held it in pace with some spacers pinned to the frame and then installed LED strips behind. The background will be what every your wall is.
Loving all that I’m learning along that I’m learning

Re: Framing an old family crest - Hinge mounting?
Brilliant,
Thanks for the responses. Mark that was the route I was planning to go, I’ve even cut the smaller mount ready.
Reassuring to know I’m thinking along the right lines.
Prosperous - I’m going to check those Mylar edge strips out- Thanks
All the best Zac

Framing my own artwork
Hi there,
I thought I’d show off the bespoke frame I made for one of my own paintings. It’s pretty simple - except for that fact there’s no backing and there’s LED strips built into the frame.
I hope you like
Thanks
Zac

Framing an old family crest - Hinge mounting?
Good morning to the most helpful forum. I hope you’re all doing well. I’ve been asked to frame an old family crest. It’s fairly old and the paper has started to disintegrate slightly. I’ve looked at the hinge mounting method. I’ve also searched the forum and keep seeing people talk about the hedgeho...

Re: 3D Map Framing
That looks brilliant Steve. I’m currently ordering from Lionpic so will look at their deep rebate mouldings.
Out of interest, which glue did you use to stick it down?
Many Thanks

Re: 3D Map Framing
Mark, Thank you!
Just what I needed. It is a fairly daunting project especially considering the size. I’m going to pick it up next week so I can see it in the flesh and get a real idea of weight and material etc.
Where would I be without you Mark!|
Thanks again
Zac

Re: 3D Map Framing
Thanks Justin,
I appreciate the help. That’s really useful. I was deffo thinking I’ll need spacers. My main issue though is mounting it. Would you just tack it to foam core or something like that?
Thanks in advance
Zac

Hi there,
I hope you’re all well. I’m fairly new to framing and have been asked to frame this 3D map. https://shop.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/dorri ... nd-annecy/
Not really sure where to start. Any suggestions?

Re: First Underpinner
Hi Mark, Thanks for the options, I appreciate it. I’m tempted to save the cash and go for something like the pistorious but I think I’m going to go for the Cassesse 79 or 88. It should be more than enough for a few years. I’m sure you’ll be hearing from me again as I am a true novice but I’m enjoyin...

Re: First Underpinner
That’s awesome, thanks so much for the replies me I really appreciate the detail. I have looked at the CS88 and that’s what I was leaning towards but hadn’t considered the Pistorious. What’s the advantage of going for something like the Cassese? Does it have more functions or is it just a bit sleeke...

First Underpinner
Good afternoon,
I hope you’re well. Up to this point I’ve been making frames with hand tools and I’m looking to get an underpinner as I find it difficult with curved or funny shape mouldings.
My budget is around £500. Any recommendations? Any to steer clear of?
Thanks
