Re: Venton Enterprises

Ventons supplied about half my mouldings so quite a bit of work to replace them. Had not thought of the dangers of having all eggs in one basket. Any business can go under.
Particularly sad for Ventons, as such nice people.

Stuff found in old frames

I love opening old frames for the surprises inside. Last week was a complete Daily Mail from 1931. Full off Celebrity gossip, contests and wingeing about the dole.

Received a form to fill out concerning rent and landlord etc for business premises. I've lost it and cannot remember what agency sent it to ask for another. Can anyone help?

PK Loop Hanger

Always on the lookout for something to replace eye rings on thin mouldings. Bought a package of PK-Loop Hanger (Lion 6343A) but cannot get them to work. The blurb says to tap the arrow bit into the frame, but being bent at right angles they just flop over. By the time I've wiggled one in, the openin...

moulding quantity warning

With BBest, is there any way of turning off the "may not be enough moulding" warnings. They are really annoying.

Re: Leaflet Drops

Rather than leaflets, we had A6 postcards printed. Colour photos of various framed pictures and me at work on the front with info B&W on the back. More expensive at £135/2000 but people keep them. Easy to put on the fridge or in a drawer and people bring them in months later.

wood backboards

Really old pictures in for refurbishment/repair sometimes have thin wood as a backboard. One in the shop right now has 1919 on the painting. How common was this and when did the practice end? Surprisingly, the art work is often fine in spite of proximity to wood acids etc.

Re: Spring Fair?

First Spring Fair for the wife and I. She is just opening a Framing shop/Gallery with the idea of running most of the framing construction via my workshop, so was looking forward to attending. The size is certainly impressive as was organization. Really good displays. I will be getting more samples ...

Re: Arqadia Claryl Glass

I tried Claryl twice. First time fine, looked great. Second time, after completed job noticed streak lines or coloured bands in the glass when light at a certain angle. Cleaning again did not help. Replaced with proper Museum glass. Will not use Claryl again.

A customer supplied their own perspex for a really big picture. They got it at Wickes, the DIY superstore.

Re: EST LITE

For moulding price I enter my actual cost (price + delivery + VAT) as £per metre. Then in the %mark-up column put a value that works. For me, the mark-up ranges from 350% to 500% with the cheapest mouldings being marked up the most.
I like the program a lot. Hope this helps.

Re: Setting-up

I did a weekend with DIY framing and found it expensive for what was offered. It is very much aimed at the hobby framer with hobby equipment. Saws and hand pinner rather than Morso and underpinner. If you are serious about a framing business a week with Robo will be much more valuable.

Customer has inherited a deer skin, beautiful thing, and wants to display it. Is this something a framer would do? Any experience? Any suggestions?

Ventons enterprises are near Plymouth. They deliver with their own van. I've dealt with them for 18 months and been completely satisfied. Check their website.
