Re: Double sided frame
Are you able to attach it carefully between two opposite-facing mounts using archival tape? I would be very chary of putting anything that old in contact with glass. I've seen images get indelibly stuck to the glass in the past and it's not pretty.

Re: Chain hanging system
Thanks Gesso and Bole. That’s such a good point!
So grateful for the fount of information on this forum - it’s invaluable. I particularly appreciate the way more experienced framers are happy to share their knowledge without making anyone feel stupid or small.

Chain hanging system
A customer has a very long picture – 1.5m x 0.5m – and wants to hang it from a picture rail. I am thinking some sort of arrangement with two parallel chains (brass preferably) about 300mm in from either end. Has anyone any exprerience of this? And where do you get your supplies? I'm thinking you wou...

Thanks so much for these replies.

What's the going rate for framing a football shirt?
I know – another "how long's a piece of string" question... I know it will depend upon size, moulding, type of glass etc. I've so far managed to somehow avoid framing football shirts – sounds like an awful lot of fiddling about – but I've had another enquiry. I was thinking of sub-contract...

Re: Framing a book
I have done this by fashioning little corners using florist's wire threaded through the mountboard with the book/magazine slotted into an inset mount built up with foam core. Perhaps not as sleek as the mylar wrap but easily reversible.

Re: Reusing existing frames
Thanks - that’s really helpful.
Totally agree about trying to be as green as possible and not chucking out perfectly serviceable frames, although my experience has sometimes been of the fiddly, badly made variety.
Good advice about educating customers.

Reusing existing frames
I have just had a flurry of customers asking me to make mounts to go in existing frames with new pictures (prints). Do other framers get these requests? Because it’s an existing frame and it’s theoretically just a matter of taking the old picture out, making a new mount and putting the frame back to...

Re: Can anyone point me in the direction of this moulding please?
Ah, have just found it on Lion’s website. I see St Ives is the style of frame - sorry to be a bit dim. I’ve seen these but didn’t know their name.
Thanks again

Re: Can anyone point me in the direction of this moulding please?
Thanks for this . When you say St Ives frame ,is that a particular style or a brand name? (Sorry - I haven’t come across that name.)
