Re: Using an underpinner - or not...

I started a thread titled Understanding underpinners and received a lot of helpful advice, part of the reason was to help with the purchase of a new machine. I tried plenty before purchase and IMO the difference between a basic machine and a 'deluxe' machine is significant, the opinions I came to we...

Basic manual Framers Corner Underpinner £50.00

Basic manual Framers Corner underpinner, I think the model reads UPM/S, comes with a with selection of wedges 7mm - 15mm, Before my time the return spring has broken so rubber bands fitted instead. Works fine and can be demonstrated. £50 to someone on the forum before it goes on Ebay (for more £) Co...

Re: Keencut Ultimat Futura Problem

Hi, you didn't mention if you bought the machine new? As Justintime mentioned it is critical that the rubber bumpers are in place, you can always add more and it has to be on a perfectly flat surface, if you speak to Keencut these are the first things they will ask you

FREE mouldings!

A while ago I purchased a job lot of mouldings, included in this was a quantity of MDF wrapped mouldings, I can't get on with this moulding and it doesn't fit with the jobs I do. So completely free to a fellow framer, might be helpful if just starting out, there is approx. 250+ 2.4m lengths. Buyer c...

Re: Pricing Software Question

I am about the same price as Justintime On my BBEst software an important figure is the Minimum Frame Price on the Mouldings Tab, if you raise this and have lower margin on materials then small jobs cost more to the customer, if you lower this and make your money on larger margin on materials big jo...

Re: Pricing Software Question

You are short changing yourself, the glass price should be calculated on the frame size, the software I originally misunderstood; there is a setting for the minimum glass price this I thought would be (if set to for example £5) the minimum charged even if the glass is tiny, but it doesn't calculate ...

Re: Pricing Software Question

Hi, I use the basic Estlite BBEst and you will probably notice the length comes up on page 1, a handy check. So if you have a frame 40cm x 50cm, 3cm wide it calculates 1.8m + 8x 3cm plus whatever your waste is set to; mine is 20% so total 2.45m. unfortunately this length doesn't come up on the print...

Re: Understanding underpinners

Ref this ** Some people will tell you differently but never pre glue a joint, let it set and then underpin. Always pin while the glue is liquid. It's the glue that makes the joint strong. The pins only serve as an internal clamp and continue to protect the joint and prevent catastrophic failure. (Fa...

Understanding underpinners

Hi all, I started back in the framing business last year with the 2nd hand equipment, I am now thinking of upgrading my underpinner; currently I am using a basic Framers Corner foot operated unit. I would like to understand more; with my underpinner it seems if I inadvertently leave a small gap then...

Re: EstLite

Hi, I have been using BBEst for a short while and so far so good, my question is if you fill in the customer details then you can print an invoice (which perhaps you could give to the customer as a record of their order) the invoice numbers move on sequentially. I cannot find a way of looking back a...

Mountboard moulding

A customer asked for a frame similar to attached photo, black frame with a deep rebate, there is a smaller moulding to edge the mountboard and step the picture back; it looks like the smaller moulding has a step for the mountboard (but I could be wrong), does anyone know if this style of moulding ca...

2x Canvasses

Hi, a customer dropped off a couple of canvasses with some vague requirements, I need to contact them to discuss the options. Canvas 1 has been trimmed at the top (see image) and bottom but not the sides, White frame with glass, my thoughts were fold sides around a backing board or trim with owners ...

Hello from Yorkshire

Hi, many years ago I did framing and I have decided to re-visit it. I have premises and have picked up all the equipment I need, the basics are the same but the styles have definitely moved on, there are some very inspirational frames on this forum. I would like to ask about recommended suppliers if...
