Re: Tips for working with black mount board?

So do you offer only Onyx (other than your rag core)

These are black core and Brightcore (purple) so couldn't really be an alternative. I am gradually stopping showing mouldings I don't like working with, so maybe I should think about some mount boards too? :|

Re: Tips for working with black mount board?

Dampen with deionized water?

I tried rubbing gently with a dry cotton pad and the mark disappeared but to my eye left a slight colour difference. I could see colour residue on the cotton wool so it figures.

Tips for working with black mount board?

Hi, I have a couple of black mount projects on the go and I swear the board marks simply by looking at it! Not dirt, but scuffs that show up as shiny bits, if I slide it on the mount cutter a bit too harshly for instance. On a shirt framing course they recommended using LJ Onyx as it doesn't mark as...

Quick check please - parchment

Hi,

I have one of these in.

https://www.clerksandcouncilsdirect.co. ... t.asp?id=6

Can I just check the correct way to mount it please? Platform mount or something else?

It says it is parchment but in my ignorance just seems like thick paper

Re: Glass or plastic for this size frame?

Update: I've gone back and explained things but price is the key. They really do just want it to look pretty on the wall, nothing more. They wonder about not having any glazing at all and just hoovering the fabric occasionally. I suppose it is no different to having a tapestry hanging. Would the 20 ...

Yeah. I am not good at saying no. A conversation to be had. I remember being told never to do business with friends :|

Re: Glass or plastic for this size frame?

No, no mount. And already a complete PIA already.

I am assuming it couldn't go direct against the glass/plastic? Or am I wrong?

So in an ideal world, what would be your go to method/materials for something like this?

Re: Glass or plastic for this size frame?

It’s less than a square metre (0.793) so should be fine, especially (assuming) with no mount. A subframe should only be required if the frame is too skinny for the size, ie could flex. Oh OK! I had in mind that anything more than 1m wide was a no go. That makes it easier for me! No mount, just econ...

Glass or plastic for this size frame?

I'm wondering what glazing is best for a frame 1220 wide x 650 tall? It is a budget frame for artwork of no value and needs to be as cheap as possible. A velvet panel which has been stuck down to cardboard already (not by me). Is that too large for 2mm float glass? Which I assume would then need a s...

Re: Display area - what to include?

Morning, sorry for the delayed reply. You are right JKX, I am unable to have retail sales so everything will be for display and inspiration only. I have been collecting random things to frame - medals, jewellery, Wales rugby shirt etc. Yes, that is the kind of thing I was thinking, to show what they...

Re: Display area - what to include?

Thank you. Vintage - I have a fake pot plant called Cyril- does that count? 😆 It’s interesting about the sports shirts. I get regular enquiries via email but they rarely come back when I ask them to pop in and see me. I thought an example might be a way to continue the conversation - but they are no...

Display area - what to include?

I have a little 'showroom', with most of my chevrons on a spinner and some carpeted wall area to fill. I have temporarily hung some random pictures and the Tru Vuew glass demo frames, but I really want to make and display some different kinds of framing . Just to showcase what is possible and help c...

Re: FramR chop price settings

Thank you all, and JXK/Jo - both are really good options. I'm glad I'm not going mad. I was fixating on VAT settings. I will be having a play around to see what works best. Seeing yesterday's undermount post, I've realised I have never charged for those so I am reviewing all my pricing/overhe...

Re: FramR chop price settings

Ah, if it rounds up that makes sense, thanks! And that follows through to the other examples - 1.35 rounded to 1.5m, and 1.54m to 1.8m In which case though, can I get FramR to reflect that? Looking back at my invoices, I've been a few pounds out each time. That's before any mark-up which would cover...

Re: FramR chop price settings

I've just run a few random mouldings at different price points through and am getting the same. FramR inc Vat is (roughly) equivalent to LJ + VAT. Which on expensive mouldings is a fair bit! Unless I'm reading LJ too simply, and there is a surcharge beyond the £X/m chop price? These are just chop, n...

Re: FramR chop price settings

I've just tried a 300 x 300 on 526025167, also £6.00/m chop.

FramR gives me £9.73 inc Vat.

LJ calculator gives £9.00 + VAT.

Re: FramR chop price settings

Yes, their invoice. It is listed as £6.00 per meter (ex VAT) and their chop calculator gives me £7.80. The invoice adds VAT to £9.36. But FramR gives me £7.92 at £7.20/m including the VAT (based on 1.10 meters needed) I manually calculate 1.1m x £6.00 = £6.60. x 1.2 (VAT) = £7.92 so agree with FramR...
