Extra Jumbo Mountboard

Does anyone know if there is somewhere that supplies black, black core mountboard that is at least 1165 x 1175? I've had a look at the usual suspects (LionPic/Wessex/Centrado/LJ etc.) but the biggest Jumbo's seem to be a max of 1120 x 1600, and only , am wondering if I've promised my client too much...

Re: Compressor

Thanks Justin, that's vey helpful. I'll have another good look at the studio and see if I can work out if I can find somewhere to squeeze a 50l one in, and give you a shout if I can make it work.

Compressor

Hi, I'm a low volume framer, but thinking about getting a compressor for my (very) small workshop. I've read a lot of the threads on here about them, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between these three I'm considering: https://www.wessexpictures.com/24ltr_Oil_Free_Ultra_Lo...

Long shot moulding request

In the box of mouldings I inherited from the guy I bought my business off is a chevron in dark/old gold, 17mm x 20mm from Wessex with the code MO2011, now discontinued. A client with wandering hands found it and has their heart set on it, I've told them it's no longer available (my bad for not going...

"Remember when men used shaving soap and a brush?" Some of us still do!

Great advice, thanks all, much appreciated.

Re: Gesso who?

Thanks everybody for the excellent, as usual, advice. I'm not planning anything fancy like gilding, the client chose an R&H A186 moulding (https://www.roseandhollis.co.uk/products/a186/) which I got in Obeche, and they just want a simple matt finish with a Farrow & Ball eggshell which I was ...

Gesso who?

I've not had any call to use gesso so far in my burgeoning career, but think I might need to for a custom paint job for a client. I'm g(u)ess(o)ing (sorry) that I will only ever rarely need to use it again in the future, so am wondering; what's the consensus on using ready mixed as opposed to making...

Re: US moulding in the UK

Thanks everyone, that's so helpful. I love 'peas and sausage' :) @Ross, I may well be in touch Any tips on how to get the cut bobbins at the corners to match up, or is it just a case of careful measuring? @vintageframes how do you hide the seams where they join, fill, sand and paint or are there oth...

US moulding in the UK

I have a client who's obsessed with this style of moulding: https://manufcatalog.virtualframerapp.com/gryphonmoulding/item?id=14714 but I can't find anything similar in the UK. There's a seller on Etsy offering ready made frames that they also like: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1175772964/beautiful-...

Not to muscle in, but if those blades have gone I have an ex-framer friend who has three sets of Morso blades to sell, in pretty good nick.

I think I'll have a play around, these aren't Archive quality figures so I'm not worried about permanent fixing.

Thanks for the ideas though, much appreciated.

Re: Sticky question

Here's a pic, they're 1/87 scale figures, so about 20mm high, the frame size is about 50mm x 40mm. https://i.ibb.co/gvJQYzb/DSC-0160.jpg They're supplied stuck to extremely sticky modeling pads, but can occasionally fall over, and there are cases where I'd like to stick them directly to coloured mat...

Re: Sticky question

That's brilliant, very informative, thank you all.

So to follow up, what type of adhesive would you consider for mounting small plastic figures to mountboard. Think Lego figures (but they're not), the contract area for bonding is extremely small, like 1mm.
