Re: Stapler

thanks for that, we are not doing volume at all so I think I will stick with doing it with carefully placed screws, havent got the room for a compressor of any size anyway.

Stapler

I am trying to find what sort of staple gun fires staples at an angle through the backboard into the moulding to help keep the frame rigid when the budget does not extend to a sub frame. I have a suspicion they might all need an air compressor but at the moment I dont even know what one is called!

Re: Drymounting oil pastels

I have no idea about that, see if she can give you a failed pic or a sample of paper with the same pastels on it to test?

Re: Drymounting oil pastels

Is the customer the artist? As far as I know to dry mount original artwork is a no no unless it is the artists decision as it will reduce the value considerably. Of course the customer is always right, but sometimes they make mistakes!

Re: first floating/box frame

Hi Sarah You have probably worked this out by now as is it a while since you posted but just in case this might be useful. the most important thing I have learned about floating prints especially if on fairly heavy paper 300gsm or more is to put the archival tape through the mount board rather than ...

Re: working with thin mouldings

All advice gratefully received and digested! I will be making some bigger frames about twice the size and those will definitely have a subframe.

Re: working with thin mouldings

Thanks so much you all, some great stuff here even if I dont quite understand some of it! the diagram of the angle of hanging cords very interesting, will affect how long I make the cord in the future definitely. I will rivet the D rings to the back board, and have put a 6 x 5/8 screw angled through...

Re: working with thin mouldings

a sub frame would obviously be best but not a lot of room as i have 12mm slips and too much work tbh. i agree the moulding is too thin to put hanging fixings on, it would prob split. what are the fixings you put in the back board called? so i can buy some and see if i can put them in without buying ...

working with thin mouldings

I had an idea which might be quite clever or really stupid, I suspect the latter as I havent seen it done. I am working with quite thin moulding, 35mm deep but only 13mm on the face and 8 or so on the base if thats the word. a 50x70cm landscape frame will have a tendency for the bottom wood to sag a...

Re: Hi from Atom Gallery

Oh sorry, yes not terribly coherent I admit, what I meant was that a lot of cheap frames have the artwork in direct contact with the glass and so of course any moisture getting in there will probably dissolve the ink or paint and cause it to stick to the glass, a box frame will do the same as a wind...

Re: Hi from Atom Gallery

Hi there, business very up and down, totally unpredictable, did ok at the Art Car Boot Fair in september but things very slow now, hoping the cat and dog show 'Bollocks and Pyjamas' raising money for Hackney food bank will be a bit livelier. all the best!

Hi from Atom Gallery

Looks like a very interesting forum.. We are a small gallery in Stoke Newington, North London specialising in but not limited to original prints. We get our frames made by E frame and we order a variety of sizes to meet or customers needs so that most of the time they can choose a print and collect ...
