I tried practising my consulting skills a bit more last week, and it once again made clear that I have a long way to go!
Re mountboard choice, there are a few mountboard producers out there, yes I liked the conservation aspect of LJ, most of their boards are. I just had to choose to stock one or ...

Re: 2 x Posters - Design Considerations
Hi Jon. I think they would make suitable mouldings for that poster. I'm definitely a fan of the distressed look, as the texture goes well with the imagery, in the way that Justin suggested. I'm placing orders for some mouldings today.

Re: 2 x Posters - Design Considerations
While I'm gaining a better understanding of my design options in general, it seems there are still some basics I don't (at least yet, I hope) have the eye for. On Sleep Paralysis, I was thinking of the oak moulding because of the similar(ish) colour, but I'm still overlooking further factors, such ...

2 x Posters - Design Considerations
Hi All,
I've got a couple of posters in from friends who are happy for me to have a little free reign on, with minimal input from them. I've had a few thoughts, and wondered how your views contrasted with mine.
Sleep Paralysis - a print consisting of only two colours, black and brownish, my friend ...

Re: Variations of Previous Themes
I have been ordering new mouldings but, yes, still have a few bits of the older mouldings that I'm using - and these were used in these examples. They have been useful for playing about and practising on less-valuable prints and pictures of my own. However, I'm conscious I need to get away from ...

Re: Variations of Previous Themes
Must admit, I'm more in your camp about the revised frame, but I'm enjoying hearing the contrasting comments. I recall you mentioned the colour of the mount originally, and the intention would be for a lighter colour for future; I just wanted to change the frame this time, and I think at least the ...

Re: Variations of Previous Themes
Rovers Return  Agree - that was a very archaic-looking moulding.
I've noted your comments about mounts. I've just received a set of samples from one supplier - all well over 4".

Re: Variations of Previous Themes
Is the moulding for the Grayson Perry that bad? I was thinking it was pretty low-key/neutral.
Sounds like I'm got a way to go, but I'm learning more about how we match our frames with the artwork. Seems like one of the "rules" (I'll use that term carefully) is to pick up a colour or tone ...

Variations of Previous Themes
Hi Everyone,
I revised a couple of previous ideas, following some feedback I received for them, and would love to know your thoughts.
The first one, a postcard print of a Grayson Perry picture, originally had quite a hefty frame around it in terms of being disproportionate to the image, and ...

Band Clamping
Previously, when asking for advice about my dodgy corner joints, it's been mentioned that I need to make use of the band clamp a bit more.
Just to confirm, do you glue and leave in the clamp over night before putting the wedges in?
Or, is it enough to glue and immediately put the wedges in, and ...

Re: Dry Mount Board Hanging Conundrum
Well, this turned out to be a massive f**k up.
I started to cut another dry-mount board, but chose to retain the whole square area of it (instead of strips) and first stick the foam core spacer to it, followed my aperture-size image/dry-mount in the middle.
And herelies the frustration with ...

Re: Dry Mount Board Hanging Conundrum
Okay, I'll sink it within another cut of the dry-mounting board. That will make sense for having a layer of adhesive to stick it all to.
You really don't like spacing away mounts, do you, John???
Sink mount it with strips of board the same thickness as what it’s mounted to.
Then put ...

Dry Mount Board Hanging Conundrum
I'm framing this poster for the child's bedroom wall, and wanted to try using some foamcore to make a slight gap between image and the mount.
The aperture size is 835x585mm, but overall is 955x705mm with the mount.
Because it's a poster, I dry-mounted it, but made the mistake of cutting the mount ...

Re: Another Frame - Process Queries
Something I'll bear in mind. I may set up another frame of this style and keep it on the workshop wall to survey whether or not this happens over the long term. Perhaps it's less of an issue with thicker mount boards?
One point....

Re: Another Frame - Process Queries
so, if I'm picturing this correctly, you would insert points into the inner side of the frame, to achieve the gap? How would they be concealed? Or do you just mean for maintaining a gap behind the mount and art?
