Thanks for all three responses. I have not oiled inside the rebate though I think that all of the volatiles would evaporate. Still better not to find out the hard way. However the tape idea sounds excellent.

I am a professional house builder and woodworker and an amateur framer. I make custom wood frames finished with natural oils and I would like some advice on whether to seal the rabbet to prevent any possibility of acid getting into the mat (acid neutralized matboard) or the artwork. mounting cross stitch
I am a woodworker and house builder who does some picture framing. I have a cross stitch done by my 91 year old mother and want some guidance on mounting it. Would appreciate any suggestions of books or websites that would help me.as far as methods and materials.
