Offset brackets in their assorted depths are the "Standard" for many framers and conservators. They allow for a backing of a puncture barrier in the rear and allow for mounting with no holes in the stretcher bars.

Re: Hi All! I need a compo recipe and 1 more thing (:

I have accumulated about 6 different styles of recipes for compo over the last 20 years. True, I just posted the most basic. One thing to remember about compo ----- It was developed to eliminate labor costs (wood carving the details). It was preceded with paper mache in the 1700's. COMPO - LOEFFLER ...

Don't forget to use some penetrating oil on those old threads and then let it soak in before attempting to loosen them.

Re: Float mounting rice paper

If it is very sheer, I would suggest a much thinner hinge paper that mulberry. There are some specialty papers available in the 2-4gm / sq m range. I use a paper called "Green's lens tissue". I would imagine the lens tissue from a camera shop might do as well.

Check with a local dry cleaner/laundry or tailor as see if they will order a 250gm box for you.

If it is a latex based tape, Heptane will soften and be absorbed. After the adhesive expands it can be scraped off with a scaple or razor blade.

Re: End of cheque guarantee cards - Do I need a card termina

These days, the only checks that I receive are from businesses. Personal checks are a thing of the past.

Cash is a rare item as well. Receipts are at least 85% credit cards(signature required) or debit cards(check cards that require a PIN number).

Re: large painting

Sometimes "artists" are their own worst enemies.

300 gm/m paper even with a slight curl from loose rolling is a no win to become flat again. I would use 6mm acrylic for glazing.

Re: 60 foot Canvas! Is this a Forum record?

That beats my largest stretching jobs...............! Stretching raw canvas and then gessoing after stretching definitely makes things easier to get a taught canvas. However, both were prepainted: 10' x 20' stretched and installed in the State of Michigan Archive library. 5' x 24' stretched - the art...

Re: Waterproof / Water resistant backing boards

I have been using poly flute (corrugated plastic) boards for about 4 years as my major backing board. For me it works fine as it comes in 48x96 sheets and is about 3-4mm thick. Since the most prevalent method for backing is a dust cover attached with either ATG tape or PVA adhesive vs gummed tape to...

Re: gesso frame

If the term "blisters" means that there is an air gap between the gesso and the wood........... that has to be cut out and filled in with new gesso. I like to coat the wood with rabbit skin glue before the first coat of gesso to assure proper adhesion.

Re: Backing board, how do you store yours?

All my boards: mounting, mat, and backing - are stored vertically in their original shipping cartons (foam centered board, pressed paper boards, gator, polyfluted, plywood, hardboard). Cartons are for 25 - 50 - 100 depending on board.

That image looks a bit lost in a sea of black........ Have you considered an extra heavy weighted "v" groove cut mat (black with a white core. The top and sides about 2x the width of the image an d the bottom about 3x the width of the image. http://visualheritage.com.au/images/framingexamp...
