Re: Flecks in Mount Board
I've used Bainbridge for years and it's a good board, especially the artcare range, you still get bits though. In twenty years I've not heard of a board that doesn't but I'm sure some are better than others, generally I find Arqadia and Bainbridge as good as any and better than most and you get what...

Re: any Pneumatic Tab guns , that u can adjust the depth
I dont know of one or am I familiar with the one you are using. My solution would be to adjust the line pressure until you get the depth you want or with my staple gun I sometimes tape a small strip of mount board to the front of the gun so it holds the head 2-3mm off the surface, do this often with...

Re: Framing a paperback
I'd start with encapsulation as its reversible. It's quite straight forward with a bit of technique nothing difficult, you can get the polyester film from Lion along with a special double sided adhesive (3M 415). Search the web or Lion also do an excellent book by James Miller which shows the method...

Re: Looking to change career can you help ?
Hi Jarrah welcome to the forum. I'm in south Northamptonshire having moved from London working from a workshop at home. I've been framing for over twenty years mainly in a high street framing art gallery. Happy to talk framing over coffee if you want to come over.

Re: Mount cutter advice please
I'd go for the keencut or to confuse the choice further a fletcher but you should be able to pick up a second hand keencut easily enough. 50 mounts aren't that many I'd be cutting them myself.

I've just started working on a new site and am using the WIX system. I've used it before and find it easy to use and adapt. Good luck.

Re: Scuff marks on coloured board
I use a damp brush dipped in distilled water. It can work well for light scuffs, don't want to make it too wet just enough to lift the fibres.

Re: What to use for washlines
I generally use watercolour from a tube (Daler), I just find it a bit easier, quicker and cleaner, over time they do dry out but you can open them up and use like the solid blocks. Also use inks, particularly Windsor&Newton, their gold ink is a favourite although it can be a pig to use in a ruli...

Re: Inert spacers
It depends what you are doing, I'm not sure what you mean by 'framing art up close' . For a spacer to lift the glass above and artwork I generally use mountboard cut in 5mm strips, wood spacers - if not in contact with the artwork, or econospace. If the artwork is going right into the rebate you can...

Re: Schedule of Industry Standard Trade Labour Times
I've been in the framing industry for over twenty years and have never come across what you are looking for, l'm sure it doesn't exist. Individuals may have timings for many processes, some pricing programs need timings to calculate the price, but many do not. There is not an industry standand, it w...

I didn't do it, so it's not mine. It was all created in the Gunnar software nothing was imported, some of the elements are standard templates. It's a competition piece so its not meant for sale, but from personal experience I have sold reproductions but more often individual elements have been incor...

Framing Competition
There aren't many framing competitions around but Gunnar has been holding one for the last few years and the finalists are shown at the NEC Spring Fair. The object of the competition is to show what can be done with a Gunnar CMC. This is the 2016 winner, framing a CD, disc or cassette was the theme:...

Re: Self-adhesive board
Mark's right a bit of pressure can improve the situation, but I gave up using adhesive boards years ago for this very reason even when I had used a roller. Sometimes it works sometimes not whether it's down to the board or dirt or grease residue on the photo/print being framed or changes in temperat...

Re: Excalibur nylon linear bearing play
They do wear, first thing to do is try adjusting them, there are a couple of Allen screws on the side of the head check both sides. I tighten them up until they just lock on then back them off a touch so the head slides without any play. If necessary you can get replacements from keencut.

Re: Need some clarity around CMCs.
I can only speak as a Gunnar user, a standard PC will cope fine, if you are going to do any creative stuff a dedicated graphics card 1GB is really needed, l don't have one at the moment and I'm going to get it upgraded. The software works just gets slower. You can import from Corel but I find you ne...

Re: A mounting book?
Also try anything by Vivian Kistler, she did a number of books on various aspects of framing including mounting. They are now out of print but a few are still available, again Lion used to do some(ebay/amazon?)
Otherwise there's not much aimed at the professional framer.

Re: Limits of CNC Mount Cutting/Etching/Bevel etc
Hi Seb The main limiting factors are you can't do fine detail or tight curves and the cost in time and mount board. The Navy motif has too much detail with the crown, leaves and rope, unless you are doing it 5-600mm wide, or you are going to simplify it a great deal to a simple crown outline. You ca...

I knew that! Use the 811! And press down around the top of the bevel to make sure you get a good seal.
