Rippled artwork

Hi all, after a bit more advice again. One of these fine days I'll have learnt enough to actually give some advice. :Slap: Anyway, I mounted a print today then noticed that it's rippled top to bottom almost all of the way along. Checked my hinging to make sure that it was all flat and it was. Any id...

Re: Hanging pictures in a static caravan

I agree with Cleaver - 'Wappy'. I knew what it meant immediately even though it's not a word I use :giggle:

Re: Hanging pictures in a static caravan

Thanks for the replies. Just to make things clear, I have no intentions of putting the pictures up myself. That's the customers job as already stated. Useful information about the construction of caravans though and has confirmed what I was thinking. Prospero's workshop looks very good though

Hanging pictures in a static caravan

I've been asked by a customer what the best way is of hanging pictures in their static caravan without hammering nails into the flimsy walls. They've already tried those sticky pads advertised on TV and the picture immediately fell back off the wall within 30 minutes, which was good for me as I've g...

Framing outdoor business signs

Hi, I've been asked to do some frames to go around some outdoor signs for a local business. Other than making them up from timber, I've been wondering about using Polcore instead. Does anyone know how weather resilient they are? They will be facing North so bleaching won't be a major concern, be we ...

Re: Equipment wanted

Hi Jim

I've got a foot operated Pro Turner underpinner that we don't use anymore as we out grew it. We're based in North Yorkshire.

Re: Postal Packaging.

Good advice given here. I'm just considering whether to sell art online as I've got some pretty rare pieces that I've kept hidden away for 10 years while I was working abroad and was worried about the delivery issues. Is using styrene a viable alternative for limited edition prints that are to be de...

Re: Wessex Final Straw

I've used the Oldham branch of Wessex since I opened last December and have always found them helpful. They do occasionally run out of stock which is annoying, but having been the manager of Robinsons in the past I understand that you can't have everything in stock at all times. Wholesalers are at t...

Re: Which backing board?

Thanks David, I'll have a look at that NuBord as well then.

As for the flumbs problem, I've seen a very long discussion thread about the pro's and con's of creating a package. I'll have to try it one day to see if it makes a difference :)

Which backing board?

I've been using MDF since I set the workshop up for most of my jobs, but have recently been looking at Art Bak from Wessex and Tawnyboard from Centrado as possible alternatives due to potential health risks of working with MDF. My initial thoughts are that MDF is great when you have to untape the ba...

Re: Problems maintaining calibration on a System 4000

Thanks for the feedback Mark & Chris, it's good to know that its not just me. My dad always said that I was mechanically driven not mechanically minded and after all these years, I have to agree with him. I'll have a closer look at it or get someone out to have a look at it I think.

Problems maintaining calibration on a System 4000

I bought a used Keen Cut System 4000 when I set up my workshop in December 2017. I initially got it calibrated well although the glass cutter wouldn't cut properly. I replaced the cutting head with a new one but it still slides around on the glass and I've given up cutting my own glass as a result, ...

Re: Crumbling art work

Thanks Mark. Valuable lessons in there.

To me it looked like the art board had like a dry rot as it flaked apart and a crack ran across the actual picture. My wife did comment on the potential profit in learning how to restore work such as this, but not sure if I've got the skills, or the patience.

Re: Customer work not picked up

I know that one particular customer has other things on his plate at the moment so was going to give him the benefit of the doubt for the moment. I've only had the work for about 3 months and have left messages for him. I was just interested in finding out where we stand with issues like this. Thank...
