Re: Telephone quotes

Usually people asking for a quote over the phone are just looking for the cheapest without a thought to quality. I just give them my lowest price and my highest prices and tell them it could be any where between the two dependent on their taste. Even then it would be countered with "I need to s...

Re: Newbie Facebook page

Good that you have so many likes in a short time but are they potential customers? From a personal point of view I think it would be better to have your work shown in your cover photos rather than your pieces of machinery which while they mean something to you a customer would not associate with it....

Re: "Hand Painted Oils"

Sometimes they get sold door to door by "art students" claiming them as their own work. I have always wanted one to call at our house where upon I would go and get a few tubes of my wife's oil paints and ask them to demonstrate. :D I have done a few of the Venice ones bought from "loc...

Re: Moulding ID

If the length I have is any use to you I don't mind cutting into 4 pieces to size (or slightly oversize for you to finish) and sending it.

Re: "Hand Painted Oils"

I think you could buy these cheaper from International Arts in Watford who import them. They have them piled up to the ceiling at Springfair ( or did last time i went).

Re: Moulding ID

I first noticed this moulding on the Heartbreak Publishing stand at Springfair two years ago and dragged my Arqadia rep over to tell me which of their mouldings it was. Heartbreak had all Vettriano's ltd ed prints displayed in that moulding and they looked pretty good. So I ordered a couple of lengt...

Re: Car insurance - a banner on this forum

I have noticed that when members post a link to an item on Lion's website it also shows other items recently viewed with them, presumably by the person who posted the link.

Re: Glass on both sides - advice please

No issues at all really but I did protect the glass with a bit of scrap mount board while I tapped the pins in.

Sometimes with these sort of jobs I find myself making it up as I go along often having put them off. The job was for a titled lady and she seemed very happy.

Re: HELP! LOPEZ Moulding out of stock

Arqadia now do some Lopez mouldings which are not in the brochure (possibly in a supplement).

You could try them on Monday perhaps.

I think the Simons LISB range are copies.

Re: Gesso-to spray or not to spray

Richard Christie set up a spray facility at his workshop. This is a link to his blog but you may have to do a bit of searching as I think it was a couple of years back. http://richard-framemaker.blogspot.co.uk/

He is a forum member - Framemaker perhaps he would respond to a PM or email.

If it turns out OK why not make up a chevron and put it on display with a mark up to cover the hand finishing.

Re: Picture board for school staff

I did a couple of these for a school but they supplied their own Nielsen aluminium ready made frames which had backs that were easily removable. Each one had to display 42 photos with another aperture underneath for the name plus one at the bottom for the school name. Total 85 openings per mount but...

Re: Looking for alternative moulding

Pescara range from Centrado (01480 4454800) comes in 33, 44 & 78mm widths.

But it is top quality and will be priced much higher.

I used to use some of that range from Arqadia and have a few packs of the mount slip I am now stuck with as I cant get the matching mouldings anymore :head:

Re: Glass on both sides - advice please

Last double sided job I did used a deep rebate black moulding and at the back I used a black paper covered fillet (Simons SLIP range) which I pinned into the moulding with veneer pins. Used a nail punch to bury the heads and a blob of black paint to disguise the small holes.

Re: Credit card transactions through First Data

I would shop around a bit and then compare the deal. Remember any other add ons like charges for PCI Compliance. I am with First Data via FATG but would not be surprised if I could better the deal elswhere. Sometimes I am wary of changing suppliers. Got caught out with the electricity supplier I cha...
