Re: Decorative Mount Tuition
Some examples of coloured bevels, part of a series of Porsche pictures using the same mount and frame but picking out the colours of individual cars with coloured bevels, so they look a matching set but each one is customised to the car.

Re: Decorative Mount Tuition
You might like to look at a series of videos I did for Keencut, they are free and there's no registration, available from Keencut and YouTube. They cover from basic mount cutting through V grooves, offset corners and coloured bevels. I use coloured bevels quite a lot, they can be quick and easy to d...

Re: Showing both sides
Hi, mylar is a trade name as is melinex, they are all polyester sheet. Lion do a good all round one, 95 microns thick, #7595. You will also need a special adhesive as regular tapes won't work either 3M 415 #1462 or Lion equivalent #9682. There is also a company PEL, www.pel.eu, they have a comprehen...

Re: Cutting problems
I think its a problem that has been getting more frequent in recent years with lower quality wood being used. It can be fine on one cut then tear the next, sometimes in the same length of moulding. My solution is similar to Jim's but I use long strips of 3mm MDF - remember to allow for the extra thi...

Re: Mount Borders in the Golden Ratio
Well I was trying not to respond but here goes. When Leonardo et al used the Golden Ratio it was for overall size and positioning of components within a composition, not for dictating mount and frame surrounds. I do use the Golden Ratio along with other ‘rules’, the rule of thirds for example, they ...

Re: Window mount sizes query
What Prospero said which is pretty much what I was going to say. I add a bias to almost every mount, except very narrow mounts, circles and squares, because it's good design and it works - in my opinion. I could go into design theory, psychology and architectural practice through the ages but basica...

They are free and no need to register, called the Keencut Picture Framing Masterclass, there are 18 episodes starting with the basics up to more advanced mount cutting. I hope you f...

Re: Characters from 14 years ago NEC Spring Fair
Steve, do you remember this mount design, it was one of John Ranes exhibition party pieces and one of the first offset corner mounts I did, wouldn't use such a big step these days. Still have the picture, its my daughter - she's 27 now....

Re: Characters from 14 years ago NEC Spring Fair
Two people come immediately to mind who had a massive influence on my framing career. Brian Wolf and John Raines, John was the reason I bought a Fletcher mount cutter and started doing offset corners, Mr Wolf opened my eyes to what could be done with framing and started me on the path of creative fr...

Re: stacked frames
That's very classy. When joining the inner frame to the flat piece do you machine a rebate into the back of the inner frame or is it a 'butt' joint?
