Re: Hoffman Dovetail Router vs Cassese Underpinner

not sure how a decorative corner joining method is distracting to the work, especially a simple dovetail, you obviously would not do this with the plastic keys, but I think a contrasting wood (oak in ash frame) looks like the sort of thing you don't find in every frame shop. The same goes for spline...

Re: Hoffman Dovetail Router vs Cassese Underpinner

The plastic keys are much stronger than the wooden ones, these are intended for appearance only, and is recommenced that they are not relied on for corner strength or integrity.

Re: Hoffman Dovetail Router vs Cassese Underpinner

I've got a Hoffman router and is a great piece of kit, but I definitely still use the underpinner much more, and there are many barewood oak/ash mouldings that I still prefer to join on the underpinner, about 95% of my works is with barewood/unfinished mouldings. If I was just making box frames and ...

Re: Tarnishing silver leaf gilding

I'd love to be able to do more experimenting with these finishes but don't get much time...

The potassium sulphide is from Handover, I think I got it from Gold Leaf Supplies...

https://www.handover.co.uk/

and the sodium sulphide was from Relics of Witney no idea if you can still get it though.

Re: Condensation

The only time I saw something similar was when I framed a watercolour, it was put in the workshop office where sunlight comes through a window and half glass door... left there for a while and condensation was all inside the glass. I think if the frame is opposite glass doors or windows and sunlight...

Markestil Mouldings do a similar one, UK agent is Flagship Framing... It's on page 73 of their catalogue.

Re: Table saw

I've got an old Scheppach table saw... really basic but it's incredibly useful... probably most used for increasing the rebate width of frames, where you're working to a sight size and rebate size on a canvas. Also great for just modifying a moulding somehow... cutting the back off or making a new m...

Where's this moulding from?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to find who sells this moulding, I thought it may have come from Arqadia but can't find it in catalogue.

Its about 31mm wide, scoop shape with distressed finish and gold outer edge.

Anybody know who it came from?

Thanks

Tim at Kingswood frames could probably machine and supply this, he's a member of the forum

or Mark at Piaf but minimum would be 50ft

Hi Barney, I don't know of any gilding course in the Midlands... Being a pretty specialised subject your're probably going to have to travel some way.. You've probably seen these course already, or maybe they are on the FATG list: Jan Pike does courses in different locations round the year: http://w...
