Specification of mountboard changed?
The mountboard sample chosen by the customer was Crescent 3340 Manor White. It was smooth board, chosen to contrast with the heavily textured paper on which the art is painted. So I ordered the board, but what has arrived is a textured board. Both the sample and the board carry the official number a...

Re: Mobile framing service
If you don't have too far to travel between customers, it might be a good way to start off. I don't advertise a mobile service as such, but I often drop work off to customers, and it's not uncommon for them to give me a picture to take back, put some framing recommendations together and then go back...

Long term effects of Plexiglas
Quick question - If Plexiglas is used directly against a poster, will it cause any damage to the poster in the long run? Is it any different if Plexiglas is used against a photograph, watercolour or acrylic painting?
Thanks.
Thanks.

^ I've just had an eye test that looked like that. "Which colour looks the most prominent, the red or the cream?" Changes lens. "Now which colour looks the most prominent?" Repeat ad nauseam.

Re: Cream core mountboard
@ David - those colours look perfect, thanks for posting that. Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to see if I can get samples of the museum solids - there look to be several colours there that will be suitable. I think I'd need to spend some time experimenting with hand-colouring mounts before su...

Cream core mountboard
A customer has shown me a vintage print he's thinking of having framed. A white-core mount would look out of place, but I'm not sure what cream-core mount to get as I don't normally use cream-core so I haven't got any samples. I see Daler Rowney do a PH neutral cream-core mountboard in a range of co...

Re: Another gap issue
Seriously, I think we all would be just as concerned as the op if our mitres looked like that. Yes of course, if they looked like that *after* they'd been glued and pinned. But the OP has said that after gluing and pinning, the gaps disappear. So what I don't understand, is why there's a problem if...

Re: Another gap issue
I think you're overthinking it and making work for yourself! Gluing and pinning isn't so much a remedy to a problem as a procedure in the normal course of events. If the gap disappears (from both front and back) after gluing and pinning, I would consider it a job well done!

Glass cutting technique
I'm not bad at cutting glass, but only small sizes, up to 20" x 16". Bigger than that, I get it cut at a local glass merchant. I watch them do it, and they cut very large pieces of glass in exactly the same way that I do. Lay it on a padded table, score it with what looks to be exactly the...

Re: Need your views and opinions
For example, if you think about many really clever TV adverts that make you laugh....and yet you may not even recall the product? I think you're confusing generic advertising with branding strategy. There are plenty of companies that have a branding strategy which promotes a lifestyle, for instance...

Re: A silly question ? Do oil paintings fade ?
FWIW I've got an oil painting which was painted 45 years ago and is unglazed. The colours still look unfaded to me, although I don't know whether the colours under the frame would be different.

I might think about using V mount strips, and hopefully the experts will say whether these would be suitable.

Re: Need your views and opinions
Forgive me for asking, but before you go to the expense of printing 1000s of generic stickers, do you know that 1000s of picture framers would use them? Any promotion I do has my own logo, branding, message and design because I want to differentiate my service from that of competititors as well as p...
